Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) continues to make efforts to anticipate the spread of Covid-19. Efforts have been taken not only by implementing Online learning for students and working from home for lecturers and staff. But it also supports the fulfillment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for medical personnel in Buleleng Regency who are at the forefront of handling Covid-19. This attention was shown through the donation of PPE and several other needs which were symbolically handed over by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd to the Regional Secretary of Buleleng Regency, Drs. I Gede Suyasa, M.Pd, Friday (10/4/2020).
The assistance handed over consisted of hazmat suits, masks, boots, hand sanitizers, and other equipment. On this occasion, the Chancellor of Jampel was accompanied by Vice Chancellor I, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.TI., Deputy Rector II, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd, and Head of the Undiksha Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM), Prof. Dr. Gede Astra Wesnawa.
After the handover, the Chancellor of Jampel revealed that the PPE was needed, so it needed serious attention. “This is according to the needs of doctors and medical personnel. This is what we ordered two weeks ago. Undiksha has been very alert in anticipating the spread of Covid-19,” he explained. Delivered further, the funding for the procurement of PPE is a contribution from all Undiksha residents. Employees and lecturers make contributions based on their group which has been agreed upon at the Leadership Meeting. In addition, funds are also collected from a one-time leadership position allowance. “We also made a circular to raise aid through the Undiksha Alumni Association (IKA), which is currently in the process,” he said.
Apart from procuring PPE for medical personnel, some of the funds that have been collected will also be used to help meet the needs of the community and students who are really in a disadvantaged condition and are affected during the Covid-19 pandemic. “Indeed, we will examine it, especially for Bidikmisi students, Affirmations, and students with UKT levels I and II,” explained Jampel.
To expedite the implementation of the teaching and learning process, his party seeks internet data package assistance for students. “Maybe in one month it can be 6-8 GB, maybe it will be enough. Because based on online learning surveys that have been carried out, students say that the need for a month’s internet data package ranges from 5 to 30 GB. We are working on coordinating with cellular providers. Hopefully, we can execute this assistance soon,” he said, adding that this internet data package assistance would be applied during online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In situations like this, leaders at the faculty level are also asked to continue to monitor the conditions of students, lecturers, and staff, if there are problems or complaints, so they can be dealt with immediately. Nyoman Jampel also said that although currently facing very difficult conditions, services for students and all stakeholders must continue to run well. “Leaders, both at the university, faculty, and study program levels, must monitor and evaluate what is currently running,” he said.
The regional secretary of Buleleng, Gede Suyasa, appreciated the ADP contribution. He explained that the tool is needed to support the performance of medical personnel. “We will distribute this to medical personnel who treat and examine Covid patients and those with symptoms,” he explained. The former Head of the Buleleng Education Office said that the availability of PPE was still relatively safe. However, it is considered that additional additions are still needed, considering that the threat of Covid-19 has not disappeared. “Because this tool is disposable. So as long as the treatment is still ongoing, it must remain available,” he added.
Before distributing this donation, the Chancellor of Undiksha had also issued instructions on preventing Covid-19. The instruction concerns the implementation of lectures that take place online from March 16 to April 30, 2020. The Chancellor’s instructions will continue to be evaluated and will be reviewed again if needed, depending on the situation and conditions at that time. This was discussed at an expanded leadership meeting which took place in the Rectorate’s Ganesha I Room, Saturday (14/3/2020). This instruction refers to the circular of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number HK. 02.01/Menkes/199/2020, Circular of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 3 of 2020 dated March 9, 2020, and Circular Letter of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Culture Number 35492/A.A5/HK/2020, regarding the prevention of Corona Virus Disease-19, and pay attention to the situation and conditions that develop in society.
Apart from theoretical lectures, practicum lectures in laboratories, workshops, or the like are also suspended, replaced with assignments, or held in June and July 2020 (if the situation permits). Implementation arrangements are left to each study program with a record of always implementing the precautionary protocol and preventing the spread of Covid-19. “For field lectures suspended or rescheduled until further notice. If under certain conditions it must be carried out, it must be accompanied by precautionary measures and prevention of the spread of COVID-19, “he stressed. The same thing applies to the final work examination (final project, thesis, thesis, and dissertation). “Implementation of research and community service activities that involve data collection and activities with the community must be accompanied by precautions,” said Jampel.
Apart from relating to the learning process, the Undiksha leadership also prohibits all lecturers, students, and education staff from traveling domestically and abroad, including for student exchanges, lecturers, or other programs that have been designed and agreed upon. As a form of anticipating the spread of Covid-19, Undiksha has also sprayed disinfectants around the campus.
“Hopefully we are always under the protection of God Almighty, and always given health. I believe that together, we will be able to get through this difficult situation. I also express my deepest gratitude to all parties for their dedication, cooperation, and hard work to continue the Tri Dharma of Higher Education activities at Ganesha University of Education,” concluded the Chancellor of Jampel.
