Singaraja– The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha) continues to boost the application of bilingual learning. This is one of the strategies to increase competitiveness. This was emphasized by the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Dr. I Nengah Suparta, M.Si when opening the seminar, Wednesday (23/10/2019).
The seminar presented a guest speaker, Estrella R. Pacis from Mariano Marcos State University. Suparta explained bilingual learning as one of the strategies to improve mastery of foreign languages for both lecturers and students. This is also very important to support the internationalization at home program that has been launched by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd in 2019. “With that, we have to prepare more competent students and lecturers,” he said.
The application of bilingual learning has been carried out by several lecturers in a number of courses. However, it is considered that there is still a need for quality improvement. This seminar is expected to be able to support that. “For classes with an international pattern, it has been running. We continue to strive for bilingual implementation. One of them uses English,” he said. Mastery of foreign languages is also seen as very necessary for lecturers in order to participate in international seminars organized by faculties and other parties. “It is this external factor that requires you to be bilingual,” added Suparta.
