Denpasar- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) carries the vision of Becoming an Excellent University Based on the Tri Hita Karana Philosophy in Asia in 2045. In addition, this superior accredited tertiary institution has also been proclaimed an International Reputable University in Education and Leadership (IRUEL). The Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) encourages these two big goals to be realized soon. Steps taken are not only by strengthening the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education but also by increasing the performance of educational staff based on spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence.
The improvement of the two intelligences was carried out through a workshop on 23 and 24 October 2021 in Denpasar. FBS Dean, Prof. Dr. I Made Sutama, M.Pd., revealed that educators have a significant role in providing services to the community, especially students. However, these services cannot be provided individually but must work in a team or synergize. In this situation, it is possible for an issue to arise which triggers discussion and even debate. In this situation, it needs to be supported with emotional intelligence to anticipate ongoing problems. “If our emotional state is out of control, many bad things can happen. Therefore, it is important for us to cultivate emotional intelligence,” he said.
Emotional intelligence, the connection is the ability to recognize and manage emotions or feelings, both oneself and others. This intelligence can be trained and developed continuously, the same as intellectual intelligence. Spiritual intelligence is no less important for educational staff. People with this intelligence can view every situation more broadly and wisely. Besides that, they are able to think positively, able to simplify problems, and most importantly always present God in every activity. “If everything can be realized, then we will be able to contribute to the rector’s idea to make Undiksha an IRUEL,” added the Dean from Ubud, Gianyar Regency.
In this workshop, three speakers were presented. Namely, Undiksha Chancellor, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., who presented material on Strategic Steps to Realize Undiksha as IRUEL, Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Administration, Finance, and Human Resources, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd who presented material on staffing performance, as well as Supreme Teacher Aiteria Narayana, Chairperson of the Campuhan Windu Segara Temple who presented material on Strengthening Spiritual and Emotional Intelligence as the Implementation of Tri Hita Karana.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Nyoman Doddy Widhiastana, S.T., M.M., explained that apart from the workshop, the participants also held joint prayers at the Campuhan Windu Segara Temple Leaders and cleaned the temple area. This activity is a form of implementation of Tri Hita Karana. (hms)
