Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) held the Undiksha Badminton Open. This first sporting event opened on October 5 and will last until October 10, 2022. There are hundreds of athletes from various clubs in Indonesia competing to show their abilities. This event, which competes for a total prize of hundreds of millions of rupiah, is also a form of Undiksha’s support for the National Sports Grand Design (DBON) program.
This match was attended by 434 athletes representing 128 clubs. These athletes come not only from Bali but also from Java, Lombok, Sumatra, and Makassar. The categories that are contested consist of mandatory categories, namely early-age singles, beginner singles, youth doubles, children’s singles, youth singles, and cadet doubles. The free category consists of male/female general adult singles, adult male doubles, mixed doubles, male student singles, male student doubles, mixed doubles, veterans doubles, and PTN lecturer/tendik groups consisting of individual executive doubles and individual achievement doubles.
The head of the committee, I Wayan Artanayasa, said that of the hundreds of athletes who competed, one of them was from Rajatarkam. He appreciated the participation of all these athletes. He hopes that this match can introduce Undiksha more widely and be able to accommodate the potential or seeds of badminton players and motivate them to compete at the national level.
Chairperson of the Bali Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), I Gusti Ngurah Oka Dharmawan, considered the Undiksha Badminton Open to be implemented. In fact, he hopes it can be included as an annual calendar.
Meanwhile, Undiksha Chancellor, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., stated that this match was a form of Undiksha’s support for the DBON program. “We are just the first, one of the reasons is because there is a national program for the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON), and we as universities should provide support by holding a national event,” he explained.
This match is expected to be held every year. According to him, having massive matches that penetrate the regions will be able to develop and motivate Indonesian badminton talents.
“The Undiksha badminton open will increase the participants’ motivation to improve their skills. I don’t want the first activity only. It must continue,” he concluded.
The preliminary round matches start on October 6, 2022, starting with the singles category for the young age. The final match will take place on October 10, 2022. In organizing this match, Undiksha prepared six fields in two locations on the Undiksha Central Campus in Singaraja City. This event also received support from a number of private parties. (hms)
