Singaraja- The Conversation Class Batch V and Speaking Class Batch IV programs are running again at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha). The program, which collaborated with the International Center of English Excellence (ICEE), was attended by 327 participants consisting of students and lecturers. Through his participation, it is hoped that his English proficiency will increase, so as to increase competitiveness. This was conveyed by Vice Chancellor I Undiksha, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.TI after opening activities in the Rectorate’s Ganesha III Room, on Tuesday (3/9/2019).
Undiksha has launched an internationalization at-home program in 2019. Therefore, the mastery of international languages by the academic community is deemed very necessary. This also adds insight to the participants which is able to make it easier to establish international relations. “This program has been running since 2017. In collaboration with ICEE. We want to improve the ability of students and lecturers to speak English. With this our horizons become more open, we can meet people from various countries. This is also in line with the university program, internationalization at home, meaning that Undiksha wants to be the home of the international community,” he explained.
Through this program, instructors are also expected to be able to share international experiences with participants. Currently, it is said that cooperation with ICEE is no longer limited to a formal nature. But also family. “I hope this activity can run better. Previously it went very well and it was conveyed by lecturers and students. I want participants to take this class consistently. The hope is that in the end, English language skills will increase, “added Rasben Dantes.
Head of Office of International Affairs and Cooperation (KUIK) Undiksha, Dr. Ni Made Ratminingsih, M.A., said that the interest of students and lecturers to take part in this program tends to increase every year. This was positively welcomed and it is hoped that in the future it will increase. “English is very important. Can increase confidence in communicating. Not only on campus. But also in participating in international programs,” she said.
Meanwhile, a language instructor from ICEE, Erick Ginting explained that in this program, participants are encouraged to be more active in speaking English. He did not deny that the students who joined this program did not all have good English skills. Confirmed, it is not a problem. “Some initially only knew a few words, after that, they were able to ask questions in English. From this participants can also hone self-confidence, “he said. In addition to these two programs, an English Immersion Camp was also held which lasted six days. This program was attended by dozens of students and lecturers from various study programs. (hms)
