Singaraja-Higher Education is an independent institution that is a place for the education of intellectuals. In accordance with the contents of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely, research and community service education. It can also be said that universities are a miniature of a democratic country. In the midst of this, higher education is not only to prepare the future for the younger generation but also has a strategic role in strengthening the nodes of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). This was conveyed by the Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Administration, Finance, and Human Resources of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan as a guest speaker in a webinar organized by the Undiksha Law and Citizenship Department, Thursday (1/10/2020).
Explained further, NKRI is a country known as the archipelago, which means an archipelago consisting of thousands of islands stretching from Sabang to Merauke, and inhabited by hundreds of millions of people. The Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is also known as a country that has different cultures, races, ethnicities, and religions so it is reflected in a single bond “Bhineka Tunggal Ika”. The characteristics and characteristics of a heterogeneous society, coupled with social and political influences, do not rule out the possibility of divisions and differences of opinion or views, which in the end will cause the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia to shake. “From this, as the nation’s next generation, the campus community must be able to become a stronghold to defend and maintain the integrity of the country. Intellectual groups inevitably have to facilitate all kinds of deficiencies through social empowerment. The responsibility of an intellectual to apply his capacity is very important,” said Lasmawan.
According to this academic from Kintamani, Bangli Regency, there are a number of ways that can be done by the campus community to maintain the existence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. First, rejecting and giving no space for the entry of all forms of radical understanding or provocation efforts into the campus environment could threaten the diversity and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. Second, give full support to the government and the TNI-Polri not to hesitate in taking firm action against all forms of disturbing words and actions: unity and brotherhood, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, Bineka Tunggal Ika, and those that are not in accordance with Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. Third, support the Police to take firm legal action against people or groups who try to divide the Indonesian nation in every way.
In addition, the campus community can also encourage all elements of the community to unite to provide support to the apparatus against certain parties who seek to divide the nation. “Then the campus can recommend to the government to re-give materials on Pancasila and national insights into the curriculum in schools and campuses. To revive the spirit of nationalism and love for the motherland. More than that, it can also provide an understanding of the ethics of national and state life and the formation of bodies from the central to regional levels that are capable of carrying out efforts to foster and develop the Indonesian nation,” he said.
From this view, Lasmawan clearly and unequivocally illustrates that the existence of a campus as a higher education institution cannot be underestimated, that is, it only creates an intellectual generation, but also becomes a “home” for concepts and other creative thoughts and ideas to protect the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
