Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) continues to make efforts to increase the competitiveness of graduates. One of them is shown by increasing the ownership of competency certificates. This has been applied to the informatics education study program, Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Studies, August 23, 2019.
Deputy Chancellor I Undiksha, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.TI., explained that having a competency certificate, one of which is the field of programmers, is very important in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and in the future. Because, in the world of work it is possible not to see academic results forever. “Now changes are so fast. Unpredictable. Later, when looking for work, you will no longer be asked what graduates you graduated from. But what abilities? Now this is shown by a certificate of competence, “he explained.
Apart from informatics, graduates from other study programs are also expected to do the same. Supporting this, Undiksha is currently preparing to form a Professional Certification Institution. From that, the ownership of competency certificates can be faster and run in a sustainable manner. “LSP is being prepared,” he said. He also conveyed that this time the certification was a grant from LSP Informatics under the Association of Indonesian Computer Science Higher Education. “This certification is a form of obligation from the university. So we have to do it,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Informatics Engineering Department, Dr. Luh Joni Erawati Dewi, S.T., M.Pd explained that there were 44 participants in this certification. Stated, that the number of interested to follow is more than that. It’s just that at the same time must follow another program. “Initially there were up to a hundred people registering. But they have PPL. So I can’t come,” she said. For this reason, his party seeks to organize this program on a regular basis. “For graduates, there are also those who are certified independently, by directly participating in LSP,” she explained.
Head of LSP Informatics Certification Division, Albaar Rubhasy said that in general, the competence of informatics engineering students who took part in the certification was quite good. However, it is considered that there is still a need to improve quality. “Generally it’s been good,” he said.
This certification is a way to determine the quality of students and graduates so that it can be used as material for departments, faculties, and institutions in the preparation of programs that will be rolled out in the future. (hms)
