Singaraja- The Bali Provincial Government continues to boost development in various fields. To make this a success, the role of higher education cannot be ignored, one of which is in the field of study. This was conveyed by the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster during the socialization of the “Nangun Sad Kerthi Loka Bali” program at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), on Thursday (28/3/2019).
In front of students and academics, the Governor from Sembiran Village, Tejakula District, Buleleng explained that in the next five years, there would be three main aspects of Bali’s development. Namely, Balinese nature, manners, and culture are based on Tri Hita Karana values which are rooted in local wisdom, namely purifying the soul, purifying the sea, purifying water sources, purifying plants, purifying humans, and purifying the universe. Five priority areas for Bali’s development were also presented, namely food, clothing and shelter, health and education, social security and employment, customs, religion, traditions, arts and culture, and tourism which has enormous potential. “These five priority areas are also supported by the development of land, sea, and air infrastructure in an integrated and connected manner,” he explained.
It was further stated that in order to smooth the realization of this series of programs, the Bali Provincial Government has allocated a budget. However, in its implementation, support from the community is very necessary. No less important is a university which is a place to produce reliable Human Resources (HR). “We hope that universities can synergize with the government, both provincial and district, to make development a success. Like in Undiksha, you can prepare reliable teaching staff. “You can also take part in providing program reviews,” he said.
Considering its very strategic existence, Koster also emphasized that he is ready to support improving higher education facilities and infrastructure, including Undiksha. “We will support the addition of lecture facilities,” he stressed. After the socialization, the former DPR RI also more specifically conveyed that the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Undiksha has a special function, namely also providing services in the tourism sector. “This is different from other medical faculties. There are around 30 percent of the material related to tourism. “That’s the advantage,” he said. To balance this, the Bali Provincial Government will also make regional regulations regarding health service standards, including for tourists. “Those who visit certain objects, such as beaches, mountains that are prone to accidents. “That requires special handling,” he added.
Undiksha Chancellor, Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd said that the development launched by the Bali provincial government is similar to Undiksha, both are based on Tri Hita Karana. “This concept is the basis of Undiksha’s vision to become a superior university in Asia by 2045. We are ready to synergize with the government in development,” he said.
This academic from South Kuta, Badung Regency also hopes that the Bali Provincial Government can provide support in institutional development, especially in terms of infrastructure to support the Faculty of Medicine, such as laboratories and hospitals. “With tourism medicine, we really need more facilities and infrastructure because it is international class. “We ask for more support and we are sure the Governor will prioritize assisting development,” he said.
