Singaraja- Principal Education and Training (Training) at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is still continuing. The participants not only listened to material related to school management from the teachers but also about the independent learning policy rolled out by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. This material was explained by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., Monday (16/11/2020).
The independent learning policy was conveyed by the Chancellor of Jampel in order to realize an increasing quality of education in Indonesia. This policy is one of the government’s strategies to realize creative, critical thinking, independence, global diversity, mutual cooperation, culture, and character in Human Resources (HR).
The implementation of this policy does not only rely on the role of schools or principals as managerial. Support from family, educational institutions, business/industry, and the community is also very much needed. “All education stakeholders, including students, are agents of change. Therefore, we must give each other full influence and support,” he said.
The availability of infrastructure and technology also needs to be a concern to support the learning process in schools. In addition, schools need to have policies and procedures as well as strengthen leadership and cultural attitudes. No less important, curriculum, pedagogy, and relevant assessments are also prepared. “There need to be innovative steps taken by school principals so that they can become a driving force in improving the quality of education and realizing students’ wellbeing,” he said.
Apart from the Chancellor, the material was also provided by the Head of the Undiksha Training Organizing Institute. Dr. I Wayan Suja, M.Sc. He conveyed the stages of implementing the Training, including the provisions that must be followed by the participants. It is hoped that the implementation of the Education and Training can run as expected and make school principals more qualified.
Previously, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Made Agus Wijaya, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained that this training is a program from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture’s Language Development Center for Empowerment of Educators and Education Personnel/P4TK which aims to improve the competency of school principals and student learning outcomes. In this case, Undiksha is one of the executors. Delivered further, this training lasts for 24 days, starting from 10 November 2020 to 7 December 2020. The participants were Principals of Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle Schools in Badung and Tabanan Regencies totaling 238 people, consisting of 122 people for the Kindergarten level, 112 people for the Elementary school level, and 4 for the Middle School level.
