Singaraja- Another good news came from Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) student Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi. This time, not only did she make Undiksha proud but also Indonesia. The Physical Education, Health and Recreation Study Programme student won 2 bronze medals in 2 international rock climbing events. She got her first bronze medal at the Ifscclimbing World Cup Villars, Switzerland, held on 30 June – 2 July 2022, and a bronze medal in the Chamonix 2022 event, Fra, which took place on 8 July – 10 July 2022.
At this prestigious event, Desak Rita, as she is known, participated in the competition in the speed world records category and competed with participants from 37 countries. As an athlete representing Indonesia, she has made preparations by participating in the National Training (Pelatnas) in Bekasi since 2020, and there is special preparation two months before the competition. “So after returning from Korea last March, for about 2 months, I did a special exercise called chasing the best time,” she said Wednesday (7/20/2022).
During the competition, Desak admitted that she had a few problems due to the different weather conditions in Switzerland and Fra compared to Indonesia. However, this did not dampen her enthusiasm to compete. “A slight problem because the weather is different from Indonesia, even though it was summer. the temperature is quite cold for me,” she explained.
For her achievements, this student, who was born in 2001 said she was happy and proud to be able to represent Indonesia. This proud achievement does not make her complacent, yet it becomes a motivation to continue to improve her abilities.
She is currently still in Bekasi to undergo Pelatnas in preparation for the World Cup, which will take place in Jakarta in September. In addition, she is also preparing to take part in the Asian Games in 2023 and the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Her effort in the world of rock climbing, this athlete from Sambangan Village, Buleleng Regency, had started when she was in grade II elementary school. She was mentored by her relative who is also an athlete. A sport that is considered very exciting and can foster enthusiasm in facing challenges has led her to win a medal at the Student Sports and Arts Week (Porsenijar), which was held from 2011 to 2019. At the Bali Porprov event held in Tabanan Regency, she won first place, National Championship, the age group won first, second and third place, the general national championship won third place, and the 2018 Asian Youth was ranked IV.
