Singaraja- Ten students of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) participated as represented of Bali in National Student Sports Week or Pekan Olahraga Mahasiswa Nasional (POMNAS) event, 2022, took place in Padang, West Sumatra on 21-27 November 2022. Their participation was greeted with pride. Moreover, there were three athletes won the championship.
These Undiksha students joined students from other universities to strengthen Bali in this annual event. The achievements achieved were 2nd place in women’s singles Tennis, 3rd place in the Pencak silat sport, and 3rd place in the 100-meter Swimming sport.
Based on the information gathered, Komang Gina Kusuma Dewi from the Accounting study program (Bachelor’s degree/S1) won 2nd place in the women’s singles tennis category. This 1st-semester student said she was motivated to participate in this event because she wanted to make her parents proud. Besides that, it was also to train her mentality and gain experience in a competition event.
This student from Sukasada has prepared herself from August to November 2022, along with her preparations to participate in the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov Bali). Even though her practice schedule had to be balanced with coursework, this did not discourage her from participating in the event. The achievements he has now achieved are proof of her tenacity, which has been actively competing since he was 8 years old.
Putu Cincin Cindra Dewi from the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program also won 3rd place for Pencak silat sport in the women’s singles art category. The student, who is familiarly called Cincin, said that apart from wanting to make her parents proud and make Undiksha proud in this most prestigious student-level sports event, she also wanted to compete with athletes representing all universities in Indonesia.
Even though he was not confident about competing with the participants, most of whom were athletes who took part in national training and even world champions, her strong determination to return home with a win kept her enthusiastic and optimistic about participating. “In the end, my hard work paid off, even though only getting a bronze medal was an extraordinary honor for me and my parents,” he said.
On the other hand, Agus Nuarta from the Physical Education Health and Recreation Study Program won 3rd place in the men’s 100 M backstroke category. This swimming event will take place from 18-21 November 2022. Preparations have been made since the beginning of the year. This 7th-semester student did not deny that there were obstacles encountered during preparation, one of which was an injury experienced during training. However, this obstacle did not become a barrier for him to compete. Winning 3rd place was a source of pride for him because, in the final round, he had to face athletes who had joined national training from the LSPR Campus and athletes from Universitas Padjajaran.
The participation of Undiksha students in the POMNAS event was welcomed proudly by the Undiksha leadership. Moreover, some won. “Hopefully in the future more and more Undiksha students will be able to take part in this championship and more and more will contribute achievements,” hoped the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Public Relations and Alumni of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd.
