Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) supports government policies to reduce plastic waste. This is shown by the procurement of water filtering machines so that they become ready to drink. From that, the use of plastic bottles can be reduced, even avoided. The technology, which was the result of an innovation by UPN Veteran East Java, was inaugurated by the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Mohamad Nasir, on Tuesday (20/8/2019).
Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd, said that the availability of ready-to-drink water has also reduced student and lecturer expenses. This step is also a form of implementing the Tri Hita Karana philosophy which is also the basis for realizing Undiksha’s vision as a superior university in Asia in 2045. Namely maintaining good relations with the environment. “All campus residents can consume the water. Campus residents only need to bring a tumbler and no longer use single-use plastic bottles. So the impact is also good for the environment,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister Mohamad Nasir explained that the machine has a multifunctional filtration system. A new breakthrough used for the manufacture of ready-to-drink water equipped with cartridges and ultra-filtration is called techno filtration. The water is of good quality and contains high oxygen, so it is good for kidney health. It is hoped that this technology can be applied to other faculties and universities. The steps taken can collaborate with UPN Veteran East Java. “I hope it can be used more and more,” he said. The existence of the machine received a positive response from students. This is indicated by the high interest in consumption immediately after it was inaugurated. (hms)
