Singaraja- Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) has solidified preparations to become a disaster-prepared campus. This realization was demonstrated by implementing socialization, education, and simulation of disaster risk management, Monday (26/9/2022).
In this activity, several materials related to disaster risk management were delivered by Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) of Buleleng Regency, the Disaster Risk Reduction Forum, Basarnas, and the Indonesian Red Cross of Buleleng Regency.
Meanwhile, the simulation was filled with earthquake disasters. This is done considering that Undiksha has a multi-storey building in an area with a potential fault plate. The simulation consists of initial actions during an earthquake, evacuation, and rescue.
The Chief Executive (Kalaksa) of BPBD Buleleng Putu Ariadi Pribadi, who also attended, said that this activity is one of the requirements that must be done to get Undiksha as a disaster preparedness campus. According to him, the implementation of this activity received a very good response from the participants consisting of students, lecturers, employees and security in the Undiksha environment.
The former Head of Gerokgak Sub-District, Buleleng, also appreciated the support of all Undiksha leaders. This activity is also expected to continue to the next stage until Undiksha is confirmed as a Disaster Alert Campus. “Hopefully, this activity will not stop here, this is only 1 stage, and we can continue to the next stage until this disaster risk reduction can be inaugurated and can be a behaviour for Undiksha campus residents,” he said.
After the simulation, his party, together with the Undiksha Disaster Preparedness Campus Working Group, will conduct an assessment of each faculty. One of the concerns is the completeness of the signs.
Chairman of the Undiksha Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM), Dr. I Ketut Sudiana, M.Kes., this socialization, education and simulation activity prepares human resources (HR) at Undiksha to deal with disasters. “Because without the readiness of human resources, the installation of infrastructure facilities will be useless. Therefore, this activity is carried out in synergy and continuously, “he explained.
He emphasized that infrastructure facilities are a severe concern to Undiksha. The preparation was preceded by an evaluation from disaster preparedness campus partners, namely BPBD, DRR, Basarnas, and PMI, for further installation of signs such as gathering points, evacuation routes, installation of light fire extinguishers, and so on.
It is hoped that Undiksha’s preparation as a disaster-prepared campus can run smoothly and continue to receive support from the working team, which has been considered to have worked optimally and the academic community. (hms)
