Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) received another sweet gift. Two students from the Department of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Putu Justika Nirmala and Putu Indah Swardiani succeeded in winning second place in the Himakua Paper Competition Volume III, Sriwijaya University which took place on 23 and 24 November 2018.
After meeting Deputy Chancellor III Undiksha, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Pujawan, M.Kes, Tuesday (11/12/2018), Justika Nirmala said that to get the first national level achievement, you have to compete with well-known universities, such as Brawijaya University, Semarang State University and North Sumatra University. “Initially we sent the abstracts in October. It was selected and made the top ten. Then continue with the presentation,” he explained.
In the scientific writing competition, this team raised “Application of Sea Ranching Abalone Haliotis Squamata on Penimbangan Beach to Support Sustainable Cultivation”. It takes about a month to produce the best work. “In this scientific work, it is explained that the acceleration of development of abalone, which is usually cultivated in tanks to reach eight centimeters, takes one year. “Meanwhile with sea ranching it can take around six months,” explained this third-semester student of the Aquaculture Study Program.
Indah Swardiani also expressed a sense of pride. This D-3 Marine Cultivation program student has set a target to take part in other competitions, especially in the marine field. “I don’t want to stop here. “But try to take part in other competitions, such as the Student Creativity Program (PKM),” she said.
The achievements achieved cannot be separated from the role of the mentor, Dr. Gede Iwan Setiabudi, M.Sc. He hopes that through this, high school graduates’ interest in pursuing maritime education, especially at Undiksha, will increase. “Maritime potential, especially in Buleleng, is still very large. We hope that with this achievement, the desire to study will increase. “Many graduates have become entrepreneurs,” he said.
Deputy Chancellor III Undiksha, Gusti Ngurah Pujawan really appreciated the students’ achievements. However, it is still being encouraged so that there are other achievements that can be achieved at a higher level. “Including this scientific work, it can be developed for PKM. The university encourages continued achievement. “This includes other students,” he stressed. (hms)
