The National Seminar on Community Service (SENADIMAS) was held by the Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) at the Prime Plaza Hotel, Sanur, Denpasar, on Saturday (10/11/2018). This third seminar was initiated by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) to accommodate the publication of the results of the service carried out by academics who prioritize innovation in improving the quality of life of society and the nation’s competitiveness. “This event was attended by 147 presenters who had gone through a strict review stage and were declared to have passed the seminar,” said the Chair of the Committee, Dr. Ketut Agustini, S.Si., M.Sc.
As in previous years, presenters came from Undiksha, Kupang State Polytechnic, Triatma Mulya Institute of Economy, Dualima Institute Jakarta, and the neighboring University of Timor Leste. Apart from that, there were also appearances by two speakers, namely Drs. Darsono Sigit, M., Pd, from Malang State University, has experience as a DIKTI DP2M Monitoring and Evaluation Team. Then the second speaker, Dr.rer.nat. I Wayan Karyasa, S.Pd., M.Sc, also have experience as a speaker and DP2M Dikti Monitoring and Evaluation Supervisor from Undiksha. It was further stated that this seminar also received support from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, the rectorate, the Buleleng Regency Government, and the Bali Provincial Government, as well as the private sector.
Meanwhile, Undiksha Chancellor, Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., in his speech read by Deputy Chancellor I, Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Putu Arnyana, M.Si., said that in the millennial era which is marked by the industrial revolution 4.0 and the demographic bonus conditions that Indonesia is currently experiencing, it demands a big contribution from higher education institutions to continue to be a driver of increasing the nation’s competitiveness. As an educational institution, universities have the obligation to carry out studies and research to explore the secrets of nature. Research is one of the dharmas of higher education which has a strategic role because research results can be used to develop other dharmas, namely education and community service. “However, in reality, most of the research results in higher education have not been utilized optimally, and are mostly used as learning development material, or even just to produce research reports. The results of research that are then applied in society are still very few. “As a result, even though a lot of research has been carried out, not many problems in society have been resolved,” he said.
Undiksha as part of higher education in Indonesia continues to make improvements by increasing the quantity and quality of research and its implementation through community service, so that the results are high quality and relevant to national development needs. Apart from that, it can also contribute significantly to increasing the nation’s competitiveness. “Continuous research and service carried out by universities will in time produce various innovations that can support the competitiveness of national industry,” he said.
It was further stated that apart from this seminar, an important thing that must also be done is the dissemination of research results and service to the community as a socialization effort and also to increase the publication of work results in proceedings and national and international journals. This is an achievement in itself for a university as well as institutionally and personally for the lecturers within it. “The most important part of a work is that it is published and used widely, which in the end can be protected through IPR so that innovations created by the nation’s children are not easily imitated and misused,” he stressed. It is hoped that through this activity, Undiksha’s vision of becoming a superior university based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy in Asia in 2045 can be well realized. (hms)
