Denpasar- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) has big aspirations which are imprinted in the form of a vision, namely to Become an Excellent University Based on the Tri Hita Karana Philosophy in Asia in 2045. In addition, every year, this university which has eight faculties has a target that must be realized. As of 2021-2022, determined to become an International Reputable University in Education and Leadership (IRUEL). To achieve this, a series of priority programs have been formulated, which are framed in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
Success in realizing these big goals must be supported by the performance of quality employees and cannot be done alone. Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Administration, Finance, and Human Resources, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd., emphasized that there must be collaboration, namely being able to work with anyone in a certain context that is justified by the rules. “No matter how great you are, if you are alone, then you are not a great person. If you become a great person, collaborate, make friends, synergize with anyone who shares the same vision, especially in accordance with the vision of this institution,” he emphasized when he became a guest speaker at a workshop on strengthening spiritual and emotional intelligence to support Undiksha as IRUEL which was held by the Faculty of Languages and Arts, Saturday (23/ 10/2021).
Apart from cooperation, there are still six things that according to him must be paid attention to by employees and these will greatly affect the development of the university. First, commitment to work. “Self-commitment is important. Whatever our job, if without commitment it’s not good. We are moreover, working in an organization where we cannot choose co-workers. So what has to change, is not about workers. But how can we adapt ourselves to the environment, to the people we are invited to work with? That’s called self-commitment,” he said.
Second, master the technology. As an employee, you must be able to adapt to changing times. At Undiksha, technology-based services continue to be developed. One of them is for making Android-based performance reports. “Like it or not, you have to learn, you have to master technology,” he ordered. Third, master the international language. For educational staff, perhaps this has not become a major need. But if you look at the desired direction of Undiksha’s development to become a learning house for the international community, mastery of international languages is very necessary. “If there is an opportunity to learn, do it. In the future, with international classes, we will have international students, mastery of international languages is very necessary,” said Lasmawan.
Fourth, employees must be creative. That is, at work not only waiting for orders, but being able to show independence and develop creativity related to tasks and functions. Fifth, is professionalism, namely how employees really know and understand the duties and functions in accordance with the competencies desired by a position. “Don’t want to dominate all the work just for personal gain. For equipment, for example, understand equipment. How can it be good, so that it is orderly,” said the Vice Chancellor from Kintamani, Bangli Regency. Finally, as an employee or worker, you must have skills in your field that are supported by self-improvement. “All of this is the key to how students can upgrade their abilities and skills,” he added.
In short, Lasmawan said the implementation of the seven things was the work of the environment and self-awareness. This means that the domain provides experience for employees regarding what must be done in order to answer the various challenges that exist. Self-awareness in question is awareness of tasks and functions in the context of work and awareness of abilities.
Regarding staffing, Undiksha continues to improve to be better. It is hoped that human resources will be realized in the future, which characterizes the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, namely creative, communicative, collaborative, and critical. “In order to improve the quality of human resources, leaders encourage employees to further study by providing financial assistance. This has already been done,” he explained.
In order to make Undiksha an IRUEL, Lasmawan hopes that employees will always optimize their own abilities, and organizational skills, namely building teamwork and being literate about technological advances. With that, an employee is believed to be able to make himself meaningful for his organization, namely Undiksha. “This is important, considering that to make Undiksha an IRUEL, every subsystem in Undiksha must be able to play its role optimally. Therefore, whoever he is, as a member of the Undiksha community, he must be willing, able, familiar with, committed, competent, and literate about the dynamics of institutional service bills. Because the increase in institutional services will guarantee Undiksha to be able to realize the IRUEL as soon as possible, “concluded Lasmawan. (hms)
