Singaraja- Students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Education, Ganesha (Undiksha) have again succeeded in making achievements at the international level. They consist of Made Suda Cakra Wibawa, Ketut Alit Wira Adi Kusuma, Hendry Juniartha, Tharissa Caraswathi Sugita, and A.A.A Lie Lhianza Mahendra Putri. This team managed to win silver at the 2020 International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Expotion (IPITEx) event which took place in Thailand from 2 to 6 February 2020 thanks to processed mango leaf products into SAR drugs.
Confirmed in this regard, Suda Cakra Wibawa explained that his team is making a product in a gel form that can treat SAR (Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis) caused by Candida albicans from mango leaves. The emergence of this idea was based on the high local wisdom of the Balinese people and paying attention to the impact of waste on the environment. In order to get the best results, an in-depth study was carried out regarding the active ingredients of mango leaves which have been chemically proven to be able to inhibit the growth of candida albicans through several tests. “We did research for about five months. Compounds from mango leaves are packaged into gel form so that people can use them practically and efficiently,” he explained.
A socio-economic approach is also taken to make the product easy to use. This product is expected to be improved and can be applied in real terms through various clinical trials. “Of course we want this product to provide benefits for public health,” he said.
To get this glorious achievement, the team which consisted of second and fourth-semester students had to compete with teams from 23 countries with hundreds of inventions. “To be able to take part in this competition, there is a national abstract selection, then after passing the administrative stage and then to international which is filled with presentations,” he explained.
He added that this achievement could not be separated from the full support of the Rectorate and Dean of FK Undiksha. “Hopefully in the future, we can provide more achievements,” he added. Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd appreciates this achievement and is proud because the newly established Faculty of Medicine in 2018 has been able to produce competitive Human Resources. “This is an extraordinary achievement. FK is still very young, but its students can already perform at the international level,” he said.
Opportunities for competition in larger events are still wide open. Therefore, the Chancellor of Jampel asked students to continue to develop their own potential, including those from outside the Faculty of Medicine. “We continue to encourage students to excel. Moreover, those who received scholarships, “he said.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor III Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., explained that this achievement is not only important for increasing the competitiveness of students, but also for universities, both at national and international levels. “Higher education clustering cannot be separated from student achievement. Of course, we appreciate this achievement,” he said. Delivered further, Undiksha is very focused on increasing student achievement. Participation in the competition is strictly selected. “This competition is prepared. So Undiksha does not just send. We want to get maximum results, “he added. (hms)
