Singaraja – Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha is committed to supporting the government’s efforts to prevent drug abuse. It was shown through collaboration with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Buleleng Regency. The signing MoU took place at Ganesha I Room, Undiksha, Tuesday (4/8/2020).
Rector of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., revealed that Undiksha as one of the educational institutions expects that its academic community must be free from the bondage of drugs. Through this cooperation, Undiksha and BNN Buleleng promoted establishing several programs, such as exchanging data and disseminating information to prevent Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors abuse and their trafficking. Besides, they would also conduct community service and empowerment, conduct research, development, and joint evaluation, develop material on the dangers of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors abuse which would be integrated into the course as well as other related matters.
Jampel said, “I hope the collaboration between Undiksha and BNN can be effective, efficient and well-implemented, in efforts to prevent and eradicate the abuse of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors and their trafficking”.
Furthermore, this collaboration needed supports of the entire Undiksha academic community and also from Buleleng society. He revealed, “You can’t just rely on BNN or other legal institutions. But they also need supports from all levels of society”.
Head of BNN of Buleleng Regency, AKBP. I Gede Astawa, S.H., M.H., revealed that for two years and four months, his agency had recommended 95 people for rehabilitation due to drug abuse and some of them were students.
So, it is necessary for having an effort to prevent drug abuse in the community. It must be supported by all stakeholders, including universities. “How to secure our young generation and our academics society. Universities students are our nation next generation. Actually, we are invaded but we don’t recognize them. It’s like invaders without troops. Therefore, don’t be a victim and let’s fight drugs together so that drug trafficking can be prevented, “as he said.
On that occasion, BNN also persuaded the entire community to convey to BNN if they find people who behave improperly and are indicated to abuse drugs. Based on their report, BNN will take preventive steps. Astawa explained, “Don’t be afraid to report to BNN, we will treat them. Please report to us and we will not process them under the law. That’s what we expect. It’s better to prevent than cure”. (PR)
