Singaraja- Character development for the nation’s next generation is a serious concern at the Ganesha University of Education. To support this, through the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Education (BEM-FIP) an Election for Youth with Character (PRB) was held. This activity, which is turning XV, was officially opened at the Undiksha Auditorium Building, Tuesday (11/12/2019).
Dean of FIP Undiksha, Dr. I Ketut Gading, M.Psi., who opened the event, said that this competition did not only emphasize intellectual intelligence, but also the morals of the younger generation. So since the beginning of this competition, the main target was teenagers who were spread as high school and vocational students throughout Bali. “Society needs to realize that intellectual intelligence alone is not enough to navigate life. But thankfully, now this nation and various countries in the world are aware of the importance of character education, one of which is the value of character,” he explained. He conveyed further, in the formation of character, the community, parents, teachers, and agency leaders must also provide support. “You have to be aware of how important character is so you feel it needs serious attention,” he added.
Asked about the government’s support for this program, he said that from the beginning it was introduced to the Governor of Bali when his position was Dewa Made Beratha, it had appeared. This is evident from the preparation of the Governor of Bali Rotating Trophy for the winners of this annual competition. “Even until now the Governor of Bali has continued to support the implementation of this event,” said Gading.
In line with Luh Eka Ratna Widiari, head of the DRR committee, who stated that the support from all parties is very meaningful so that this event can be held every year. In addition, he stated that BEM FIP is very committed to continuing to develop ethical values not only in Bali but also at the national level. To note, this time the competition was attended by 75 participants from the nation. After participating in a fairly rigorous selection, 15 finalists will take personality tests and quarantine, before competing in the PRB Grand Final Night which will be held on 15 November 2019 at the Undiksha Auditorium. “From outside Bali there were several participants. But they didn’t qualify in the top 15.”(hms)
