Singaraja- Teacher Professional Education (PPG) in 2021 at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) continues. Now, this national program has stepped into batch III with 376 participants. Participants from various regions in Indonesia took part in an academic orientation online, Thursday (15/7/2021). All of them are expected to become more professional and qualified teachers in order to build superior human resources with 6C characteristics.
PPG Undiksha Coordinator, Drs. I Gede Nurjaya, M.Pd., in his report, said that the number of students was divided into five fields of study, namely 34 English, 27 fine arts, and 210 Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD). (PG-PAUD) as many as 70 people, and guidance and counseling for as many as 35 people. These participants were those who passed the selection in 2017, 2018, and 2019. It was further stated that these participants came from 16 provinces in Indonesia with 70 districts/cities. “I think it’s great. These 16 provinces start from Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, NTT, and even Papua. In each province, East Java is the most numerous, namely 29 regencies/cities,” he explained.
The diversity of origins of the participants, according to Nurjaya, further strengthens that Undiksha is truly the rainbow of the archipelago. “Through this program, diversity of ethnicities, religions, cultures, customs, and mindsets may be brought together, and we make this a beauty like a beautiful garden,” he invited. This Indonesian Language Education academic added that through this PPG, participants will be able to become adaptive teachers in facing fast changes, in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 which is full of uncertainty and ambiguity. “We hope that by participating in PPG, the quality of teachers will improve and they will be more ready to face changes, especially in the education sector,” he said.
Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Academic and Cooperation Affairs, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.T.I., in his remarks, said that PPG is a very critical matter. This national program is the spearhead for Indonesia to be able to produce superior teachers in order to produce a superior generation to realize an advanced Indonesia. “This is a burden for all of us, both the teachers and also us at the university to be able to produce superior human resources. Therefore, I have high hopes for all participants from various fields of study to help make it happen,” he hoped.
He further conveyed, in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, the challenges faced by teachers became even greater. The literacy movement that is grown in children is no longer limited to reading, writing, and counting. But they also have to be equipped with data literacy, technology literacy, and humanities literacy. In addition, to deal with the rapidly changing world, teachers are invited to equip students with 6C, namely critical thinking, collaboration, communication, character, compassion, and computational thinking. “These six things need to be built by teachers for students. We hope that PPG participants will realize this later,” he concluded. (hms)
