Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) hosted the “Bali Virtual Job Fair” which took place from 15 to 17 June 2021. The event which was fronted by the Technical Implementation Unit for Student Career Development and Entrepreneurship (UPT-PKKM) collaborated with eight universities in Bali, namely Udayana University, Warmadewa University, National Education University, Bali State Polytechnic, STIMIK Primakara, Alfa Prima, Institute of International Tourism and Business, and Wira Medika College of Health Sciences. This activity, which collaborates with 25 companies in various fields, offers hundreds of vacancies aimed at college graduates, final-semester students, and the general public.
Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Public Relations of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd, in his remarks said that the activity with the theme “Finding Opportunities in the New Normal 2021″ is an event to get the main opportunity for graduates who have not found a job, especially in the midst of Bali’s shaky economy as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. “Currently Bali is under tremendous economic pressure compared to other regions in Indonesia. This is because Bali is very dependent on tourism for its economic sector, but unfortunately, tourism is currently experiencing very serious problems,” he said.
Delivered further, Undiksha has a vision of becoming a superior university based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy in Asia in 2045. This activity is one of its implementations in the form of caring for others who do not have a job. “Therefore, on behalf of the Chancellor, I would like to thank all stakeholders who have joined to facilitate our graduates so that they can later get jobs according to their areas of competence,” he added.
The Head of the Buleleng Regency Manpower Office, Ni Made Dwi Pryanti, who represents the Buleleng Regent, appreciates that the job fair can continue to run amid the Covid-19 pandemic. This is considered as one of the government’s implementation and commitment through Undiksha which collaborates with public and private universities in Bali in an integrated manner to make efforts to reduce unemployment. This event also serves as the implementation of a transparent and competitive job search system. “The provision of centralized information through job fair activities has strategic value because it can provide a space for direct two-way communication between users and job seekers. Meanwhile, the government acts as a facilitator,” she said.
Furthermore, this bureaucrat from Banyuatis Village, Banjar District, Buleleng revealed that the presence of the Covid-19 pandemic had caused many people to lose their jobs, especially in the tourism sector. “The existence of this job fair is considered to return opportunities and job opportunities for them, both for residents of Buleleng and residents outside Buleleng,” she said.
She also stressed that efforts to develop the workforce sector that had been carried out by the government until recently had not fully met expectations. This is due to the fact that there is still a growth gap between the workforce and available job opportunities, especially in the formal sector. “Facing these labor conditions, it is necessary to continue to strive for smart and innovative expansion of employment opportunities so as to create friendly employment opportunity programs,” she emphasized.
In the context of globalization, the single market for the ASEAN Economic Community or MEA has been implemented. According to Dwi Pryanti, the government is committed to preparing human resources or workforce, including those in Buleleng who are ready to compete at a global level, and always encourages the expansion of employment opportunities through the presence of novice entrepreneurs or entrepreneurship. This should also be supported by existing stakeholders, such as educational institutions, private job training institutions, as well as training for entrepreneurs. “I would like to thank all those who participated in today’s job fair. I hope that this activity can be carried out on an ongoing basis while continuing to strive to improve the quality of service and implementation as well as the quantity of participating companies,” she concluded.
