Dozens of students of Ganesha University of Education were released by the Rector, Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., on Wednesday (9/1/2019). Those from nine study programs participated in the Field Experience Program (PPL) and Field Work Practice (PKL) in three ASEAN countries during the period January – February 2019. The event was also attended by Vice Rector IV, Drs. I Wayan Suanajaya, M.A., Ph., and a number of deans and study program coordinators.
Chair of the Undiksha Learning Development and Quality Assurance Institute (LPPPM), Prof. Dr. A.A.I.N. Marhaeni, M.A., said that there were 33 students taking part in the program. Only 31 people took part in the release. Two people left on January 5 for Thailand. The students, he continued, came from six faculties. “They are from nine study programs. Since this program started in 2016, the number of participants has continued to increase. Likewise in terms of faculties and study programs,” she said.
It was further stated that the program collaborates with eight universities spread across Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Students will take part in the program for one month. Regarding financing, the university which has a Faculty of Medicine also provides subsidies to ease the burden on students. “To take part in this program, students are strictly selected. Starting from English language skills, and abilities according to their scientific field and attitudes. “The process is quite long,” she explained.
Apart from this period, selection is also carried out for departures in the July-August period. The stages are no different. “We are targeting a minimum of 60 students to take part this year. “We are optimistic that this can be achieved because, in July and August, there will be several new study programs implementing PKL and PPL,” said Marhaeni.
According to him, this program is not only to meet academic demands. But it also provides opportunities for students to broaden their horizons. “With this, students’ insight is unlimited. “Especially now in the era of the 21st century. We must also be able to compete with the outside world,” he explained. Apart from sending abroad, he added, Undiksha also received 19 students from a number of universities from ASEAN countries. “Two people have arrived. “The rest will come soon,” she added.
Chancellor, Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., said that this program was also to support the internationalization of universities which was launched in 2019. It is hoped that the students who take part will also introduce various things about the university, including conveying the Tri Hita Karana philosophy which is the basis of Undiksha’s vision. “When they return to campus, they must also share their experiences with other students,” he said.
Even though the participants’ achievements have shown a positive trend, this program does not only stop targeting universities in these three countries. However, it is targeted to expand to a number of countries in Asia, such as China and Taiwan. Not only that, it also reached Australia. To make this happen, improvements in the quality of Human Resources continue to be carried out. “To realize internationalization, of course, cooperation needs to be expanded. “To improve mastery of foreign languages, we also have a program,” said the former Deputy Chancellor II of Undiksha.
One of the participants from the English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Antonius Gita Adetian really appreciated this program. The reason is, that he can find out the educational patterns implemented by other universities. “We really support this program,” he said. (hms)
