Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) does not only pay serious attention to student academic development. However, the largest public university in North Bali is also present in the community in order to solve problems, one of which is the frequent flooding in the Baktiseraga Village area, Buleleng. The handling was carried out through the manufacture of UNF 1 Biopori Aggregates, which the training took place on Monday (9/12/2019).
This Community Service Program (P2M) was initiated by Gede Iwan Setiabudi, S.Pd., M.Sc., a Marine Cultivation lecturer who collaborated with Undiksha Biology Department Lecturers. The training activity which took place in the Baktiseraga Village Head Office Hall also presented the Head of LPPM Undiksha, the Head of the Buleleng Environmental Service. The participants were from the Buleleng Environmental Service and 20 Baktiseraga Village residents.
Iwan Setiabudi explained an alternative solution, in the form of UNF 1 Biopori Aggregate, which was developed to deal with stagnant water and also organic waste. The rolling of this program is because Baktiseraga Village is prone to receiving floods during the rainy season. “So here in every house, there will be an absorption hole measuring 4 dim with a depth of approximately 1 meter,” he explained.
On that occasion, the results of the collaboration between the Department of Marine Affairs and the Department of Biology were introduced, in the form of Effective Microorganism Products that function as fertilizers and decomposers. “Through today’s activities it is hoped that it will be the initial dissemination of biopori products so that they can be replicated in several other places,” he added.
The Head of Baktiseraga Village, Gusti Putu Armada positively welcomed this program and hoped it would be able to provide solutions to deal with floods and waste. “As the Village Head, I hope that the techniques and strategies offered by Undiksha can provide solutions to dealing with floods and waste,” he said. He also said that apart from being a water catchment area, the Biopori program could also help the community obtain organic fertilizer. “I’m sure, there are many benefits that can be obtained. As long as all components are consistent and willing to try. Hopefully, we can overcome the waste problem together.” he added.
The Head of the Buleleng Regency Environmental Service (DLH), Putu Ariadi Pribadi, S.STP., M.AP., said that the synergy between the local government and Undiksha in handling environmental issues was very positive. To succeed, it is hoped that there will be maximum support from the community. “And I, as the Head of Service, would like to thank Undiksha for trying to find alternative solutions to dealing with waste and flood problems,” he said.
Head of LPPM Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Gede Astra Wesnawa, M.Sc. who opened the activity said that in the context of handling floods and waste, it needs to be balanced with improving the character of the community to reduce negative behavior. The Geography Department lecturer emphasized the hope that the community and government can collaborate with Undiksha to solve problems in the field together. “This is where Undiksha’s efforts are to get closer to the community, and how can the community benefit from the existence of this educational institution,” he concluded. As a first step, this program will be tested at 5 different points, which are planned to be carried out at the Office of the Buleleng Personnel and Human Resources Development Agency, the Baktiseraga Village Head’s Office, and in three residents’ homes.
