Singaraja – The Department of Law and Citizenship, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (FHIS), Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) again held a national seminar, Saturday (5/10/2019). The seminar with the theme “Building Democracy Through Quality Elections” presented a guest speaker, Judge of the Constitutional Court, Dr. I Dewa Gede Palguna, S.H.M.Hum, Member of DPD RI, Dr. Made Mangku Pastika, M.M and Undiksha Academics, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd.
Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Dewa Gede Sudika Mangku, S.H.,L.LM. explained this seminar as a momentum to reflect on the election results that took place in June 2019. According to him, there are still things that need to be evaluated, one of which is related to participation. From this seminar, it is hoped that the community, including students who enter it, will have a better understanding. “We organize to provide an understanding to the public about political participation that builds democracy. We want to have quality elections. We want to have a quality democracy as well,” he explained.
The presence of the three resource persons, he continued, was greatly appreciated. This is considered a form of support for the theme being carried. “We really appreciate, despite his busy schedule, being a resource person. This includes participants. This seminar is also to commemorate Pancasila Sanctity Day,” he added.
Dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Sukadi, M.Pd., M.Ed, who opened the seminar, stated that good democracy will be in line with the quality of leaders and representatives of the people born from elections. “We want people to be able to make elections according to their conscience,” he said. He also conveyed that apart from elections, a democratic attitude is also expected to appear in other aspects of life in society. As reiterated, through this seminar, it is hoped that there will be an increase in understanding. “A good understanding will produce a good democracy,” he said.
At this seminar, Dewa Palguna presented the material “Democracy, Elections and the Constitutional Court”, Mangku Pastika presented the material “Democracy Is Not Just an Election Routine” and Prof. Lasmawan “Reconstructing Beginner Voters’ Democratic Literacy”. The discussion was warm. One of the participants asked questions related to democracy in the digital era. (hms)
