Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education with Ganesha University of Education as host, held Languages and Arts Faculty (FBS) throughout Indonesia Forum, in Bali Island. It was conducted to discuss the quality of education to be more advance and creative.
“We do appreciate Undiksha Bali for hosting the FBS Indonesia Forum. In this forum the graduates can use their knowledge for themselves, their families, society, and nation,” said Director General of Learning and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Prof. Intan Achmad, in Denpasar, on Friday.
This event had theme “The Innovation of Management for Languages and Arts Faculty of Indonesia”. Intan Achmad emphasize that all universities in Indonesia should let the students not to possess in academic only, but to be creative to help and solve the social problems in the community.
Therefore, through this forum, the lecturers in each university also came with the solutions to solve social problems occurred nowadays. “Today, social problems cannot be solved by producing innovation, science, and technology only. It should be seen from the human side too, “he said.
Based on these situations, the study that must be done by the Languages and Arts Faculty in Indonesia should also contribute in handling the social problems in the community, as in Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education was currently developing “general education” program, so that graduates would have good competence in speaking and know how to have social interaction with other people.
“In order to fulfill this, the campuses in Indonesia should make an extracurricular for the students to be applied in social life,” he said.
Similar opinion was also expressed by Vice Rector 1 of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I.B Aryana. He said that Indonesian Languages and Arts Faculty forum was very important because many things could be explored to improve the quality of the faculty graduates so that it could be useful for the community and could be able to compete with the other competitors in the work field.
“Especially in 12 Educational Institutions (LPTK), they also wanted to produce professional teachers and of course the ones who will be able to follow PPG. Through this forum, we can improve the quality of the lecturers so that it can successfully educate the next generation, “he said.
He said that in the future the teachers who follow the PPG were the teachers who would have certification. It was already regulated in the Law and not just in LPTK alumni. So the alumni could also compete for this.
“That is why all aspects should work together to improve the quality of the lecturers. It is also expected that selection of the PPG participants should match with the pedagogical components. This is as the consideration so that the LPTK alumni can have more opportunity to be a lecturer or teacher, “he said.
Through this forum, it was expected that the pedagogic or science or art component in becoming a teacher could be fighting for, so that LPTK alumni had a big chance to join this PPG. “If they are not given the opportunity, then they cannot do anything else, because their skills were in the teaching field,” he said.
In addition, this forum also discussed how to produce good curriculum quality and could work together in the future to improve the quality of education. “We also expect how the cooperation works in the field of research and publication where it is very important for better education in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Event Committee, Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Padmadewi added, this activity aimed to collect various teachers to provide a little solution and thoughts and experiences to produce an innovation that could be able to develop education to be better.
“I hope this forum can run smoothly in accordance with our shared expectations that lasted for three days (29 September to 1 October 2017),” he said. (WDY)
