Singaraja – The Academic Support Unit (UPA) of Balingkang Confucius Institute of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) received a visit from a Gu Qin maestro, Yang Zhijian, Friday (31/1/2025). The event was also attended by Undiksha’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.T.I.
Gu Qin is a traditional Chinese musical instrument that has a shape that is similar to a lute and has existed for thousands of years. This instrument is not only a musical instrument, but also reflects deep cultural values. UNESCO has declared Gu Qin as a world cultural heritage that must be preserved.
On this occasion, Yang Zhijian said that Gu Qin is not only a musical instrument, but also a tool for dialoguing with self. The sounds produced have a calming effect on the heart and mind. Although it looks difficult, Gu Qin can actually be learned by anyone, without any age limit. He also showed his skill in playing the Gu Qin live in front of the guests. His performance was greeted with great enthusiasm, including by Undiksha Vice Rector, Prof. Rasben Dantes.
Prof. Rasben Dantes appreciated Yang Zhijian’s presence and welcomed his initiatives in introducing Chinese culture to the academic community and Balinese people. He emphasized that since 2024, Undiksha through Balingkang Confucius Institute has opened various Mandarin language and culture learning classes, which are not easy to learn. He hopes that this cooperation can continue and bring benefits to both parties, as well as become a forum for cultural exchange between China and Indonesia, especially Bali.
This visit is a valuable momentum in strengthening academic and cultural relations between Undiksha and international partners, as well as providing inspiration for the academic community and the wider community in getting to know the world’s cultural heritage more closely. (hms)
