Padang- The Undiksha Field Tennis Team which competed in the 2019 LPTK Cup at Padang State University, West Sumatra finally fulfilled its ambition of becoming a champion. In this prestigious event, Undiksha was able to make brilliant achievements after two numbers were able to win gold medals, namely executive B and the men’s team achievement number.
The Undiksha contingent in executive number B, strengthened by I Ketut Budaya Astra and I Wayan Arthanayasa, was able to frustrate the resistance of Ahmad Rom, who was partnered with Hikmat Hakim from Makassar State University with a score of 8-5. The Undiksha team was able to defend their title which they won at the 2017 LPTK Cup in Yogyakarta.
With this achievement, Undiksha Chancellor Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., is sure that Undiksha will be able to bring more than one gold medal to the island of the gods, Bali. The Undiksha tennis team also followed the brilliant achievement in the achievement number. Winning gold was finally able to fulfill the determination to become a champion, after so many years of fasting for a title. Becoming this champion, the Undikha team met the men’s team tennis team at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo which was the runner-up of the 2017 LPTK Cup.
Undiksha, reinforced by young players, was able to frustrate the resistance of Gurontalo State University with a final score of 2-0. In the first party, Undiksha fielded pairs I Ketut Iwan Swadesi and Made Agus Dharmadi. Meanwhile, Gurontalo State University fielded the pair of Ucok and Hasan. The match in the final was exciting and very tight. Chasing after points is inevitable so the match runs very slowly. In the final set point, Undiksha finally beat Ucok and Hasan’s resistance with a tiebreak score of 9-8 7-5. With this victory, Undiksha temporarily leads with a score of 1-0.
The cheers of the Undiksha supporters continued to roar at the Padang State University Indoor Tennis Court. The presence of Undiksha Chancellor Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd, who was accompanied by Undiksha Deputy Chancellor I, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.TI., and Undiksha Deputy Chancellor III Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd was able to add to the enthusiasm of the Undiksha team. In the second match Undiksha, who fielded Peby Gunarto paired with I Made Satyawan, was able to play superior to his opponents Ruslan and Suryadi from Gorontalo State University. By playing fast, Peby and Satyawan were able to win with a score of 8-3 over Gorontalo who were only runners-up.
Undiksha tennis team manager, Dr. Ketut Yoda, S.Pd., M.Or said he was proud after his team was able to make brilliant achievements in this prestigious biennial event. However, in the early stages, the Undiksha team’s journey was very difficult, they had to be in the same group as Gorontalo State University and Jakarta State University. After becoming the champion, the Undiksha men’s team tennis team had to meet with the Indonesian Education University and managed to win. As the overall winner, Undiksha hopes to win more medals in the LPTK Cup hosted by Jakarta State University. The Undiksha tennis team previously sent 16 athletes. The LPTK cup is not only to find champions but also to show sportsmanship. (hms)
