Singaraja- The good news was received by the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha). The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology granted permission to open eight applied undergraduate (D4) study programs. Previously, the study program was at the Diploma III (D3) level which was then proposed to go up a grade. These eight study programs are open for student admissions for the 2022/2023 academic year.
The eight study programs are D4 Software Engineering Technology which was previously D3 Informatics Management, D4 Electronic Systems Engineering Technology which was previously D3 Electronic Engineering, D4 Applied Chemistry which was previously D3 Chemical Analyst, D4 Fisheries Biotechnology which was previously D3 Marine Aquaculture, D4 Remote Sensing Engineering Technology who was previously D3 Mapping Survey, D4 Hospitality Management who was previously D3 Hospitality, D4 Public Sector Accounting who was previously D3 Accounting, and D4 English for Business and Professional Communication who was previously D3 English. The permit to open the study program is stated in the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Number 140/D/OT/2022.
Deputy Chancellor for Academic and Cooperation Undiksha, Monday (13/6/2022) explained that through the D4 program, students and graduates are designed to have complete and superior competencies. Not only hard skills but also soft skills, teamwork, and leadership, as well as a strong and creative character. In addition, graduates are also ready to adapt to the world of work which is constantly changing and developing with the changing times. He also conveyed that the increase in strata was also to answer the needs of applied undergraduate graduates in the business and industrial world. “We see that several business and industrial worlds require qualifications or competencies for applied undergraduate graduates, but many are still filled with academic graduates,” he explained.
This grade increase, Rasben Dantes said, had several consequences that had to be carried out by universities. First, no longer accepting diploma III students. Therefore, all prospective students who have passed through the D3 talent interest route which we will do independently in 2022 will be migrated to D4. This will be preceded by meetings and discussions. “If they want to go to D4, we will migrate directly. If not, we will provide the opportunity to register independently to choose the desired study programs. Regarding the costs already incurred, the university will return them,” he said.
However, he hopes that prospective students who have passed the selection agree to migrate to D4. The second consequence is that universities get flexibility, namely they are given one year to complete the studies of D3 students who are still currently available, namely the class of 2019 who are in semester VI and above and have not finished their studies. “So I hope that all study programs will encourage, motivate to provide space for our students to complete their D3 studies within a period of one year at the latest,” continued this academic in the field of Informatics.
It is hoped that increasing D3 to D4 can increase public interest in studying at Undiksha. The public also needs to know the difference between the two levels of education. Applied undergraduates have more practice than theory, and vice versa for academic undergraduates. “If you use a comparison, it could be 60 percent and 40 percent. Therefore, we actually guide this applied scholar, we foster him during the four-year teaching and learning process. So that later after they go into the field, they are completely ready to use, according to the needs of companies, industries, or organizations that need them,” he said.
Registration for new student admissions for these eight study programs is opened through the Joint Entrance Selection of the Independent PathwayComputer Based Test (SMBJM-CBT), namely until June 30 2022 through the https://penerimaan.undiksha.ac.id/ujian-tulis page. It is hoped that this opportunity can be put to good use by SMA/SMK/MA graduates. (hms)
