Singaraja- The Rector of Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, invited all lecturers to enhance their personal branding through research. This message was delivered during a seminar titled “Transformation of Policy Strengthening and Development of Research and PkM in Higher Education,” held on Friday, July 19, 2024.
In the seminar held in the Ganesha III Room of the Undiksha Rectorate, Prof. Lasmawan emphasized that research is one of the fundamental pillars and a key avenue for Undiksha to gain wider recognition by the public. In 2024, the research program in Undiksha showed positive growth, with a total increase in grant funding to 2023. The research spearheaded by accomplished researchers is expected to continue growing, enhancing, and improving in quality and quantity. “One of our policies at Undiksha regarding research is to ensure that it continues to thrive,” he stated.
The Rector from Bangli, further emphasized that conducting research is not merely a responsibility as part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education but also serves as a benchmark for a lecturer’s academic development. Moreover, research can be a powerful tool for personal branding. “Teaching is a duty. However, if one wants to show their competence, it is through research and findings. Through research, we can enhance our teaching skills.” he asserted.
Additionally, Prof. Lasmawan highlighted that research conducted by lecturers should not stop at producing results. It should be refined, applied in public, potentially patented as Intellectual Property Rights (HaKI). In this opportunity, he also challenged the lecturers to secure research grants, including those cross-ministerial sources. To further validate their ideas and innovation.
This seminar featured a presentation by Research, Technology, and Dedication to Community Director (DRTPM), General Higher Education Directorate 2022-2026 Period, Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Faiz Syuaib, M.Agr. He emphasized the sentiment that research is indeed the foundation of a university. “We must first dig, plant, nurture, grow, evolve, and produce. This process forms the basis or foundation of the universities,” he said.
Furthermore, Prof. Faiz Syuaib noted that while Indonesia has significant research potential, it remains sporadic. To enhance competitiveness, he urged the lecturers to conduct research grounded in both competence and quality, with a strong emphasis on relevance. ”Quality has its standard, while relevance is about the appropriateness of the research,” he added.
This seminar also included discussion on community service and related policies presented by the Community Education Coordinator at the General Higher Education, Research, and Technology Directorate from Kemendikbudristek, Lutfi Ilham Ramdhani, S.Sos. On the same day, there was also a seminar about journal management held, led by the Scientific Journal and Scientific Publication Coordinator, General Higher Education, Research, and Technology Directorate, Yoga Dwi Arianda, S.T.
