Singaraja- Integrity is the key to preventing corrupt practices. This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPK-RI) Komjen. Pol. Drs. Firli Bahuri, M.Sc as a guest speaker at the 2nd Civic Law National Seminar (SENACILA) held by the Department of Law and Citizenship, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, University of Education, Ganesha (Undiksha), Friday (1/10/2021).
Firli stated that corruption is a serious crime that must be handled seriously. Therefore, the KPK is very interested in freeing Indonesia from corrupt practices. The reason is, corruption can cause losses to the state, which in practice is shown in the form of extortion, bribery, fraud, and gratuities. “If this corruption continues to grow, continues to undermine our lives, and touches all aspects of life, then the country can fail because of corruption,” he said.
Various impacts can be caused by acts of corruption, ranging from poverty, natural damage, high economic costs, lower education levels, and disruption of the quality of public services. “For that, let’s unite our commitment to eradicate corruption,” he invited.
There are many reasons for the occurrence of corruption, namely because of greed, there is opportunity, there is power, and the lowest punishment. Apart from that, because of the weakness of the system, the failure of the system, and the bad system. Firli said, currently the KPK is at least putting forward three strategies in eradicating corruption, namely education to the public, prevention by improving the system, and taking firm action in a professional manner with the intention that people are afraid of committing corruption. “KPK also builds integrity. Because actually with integrity, we can avoid corrupt practices,” he concluded. (hms)
