Singaraja- Students of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) again made brilliant achievements in the international event. It came from the Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exposition (IPITEX) on Thailand Inventors’ Day 2023. At the event, which took place on February 2-6, 2023, at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC), Bangkok, Thailand, the Undiksha team from the Faculty of Medicine won gold and bronze medals.
The first team consisted of Kadek Edy Sukarma, Putu Yoga Hendrata Laksmana, and Gede Agus Jaya Nanda. They are students of the Medical Study Program who won the gold medal through their work entitled “Smart Serum Glucose Monitor based on IoMT as A Health Monitor for Diabetes Mellitus Patient,” with the supervisor Dr. dr. Made Kurnia Widiastuti Giri, S.Ked., M.Kes.
Team leader, Edy Sukarma, explained that Smart Serum Glucose Monitor is a system designed by combining an IoMT (Internet of Medical Things)-based glucometer with a telemedicine application. This system detects blood sugar levels and health conditions of patients with comorbid diabetes mellitus remotely regularly. He also added that this system has several features to support the practicality of this tool. The first feature is auto-notification to interact with health workers. The second is a reminder feature to remind patients to check their blood sugar routinely. The third is the fingerprint feature to maintain the security of patient data. The fourth is a statistical feature to determine the patient’s blood sugar progress. The last is the emergency support feature based on location, which functions to contact the nearest health facility if the patient’s condition is in an emergency.
The second team consisted of Ketut Wahyu Megananda Kesuma Putra, Putu Krisna Satya Jayadi, Kadek Dwi Cakradiningrat, and I Made Ramantika Suryantara. They are the Medicine study program students who won a bronze medal through their work entitled “The Potency of Vandruff (Vanishing Dandruff) Pomade in Preventing and Treating Seborrheic Dermatitis due to Malassezia sp,”. The team was also mentored by Dr. dr. Made Kurnia Widiastuti Giri, S.Ked., M.Kes.
The team, led by Ketut Wahyu, displayed a pomade or hair styling product to cure seborrheic dermatitis that often occurs on the scalp caused by Malassezia, especially in people living in tropical areas. This product uses essential ingredients such as aloe vera, tea tree oil, and lemongrass essential oil. The idea to make this innovation emerged because he had experienced a similar disease, so he thought to find a treatment solution.
This achievement is a pride for both teams because they can bring the Undiksha and Indonesia to the international event. The innovation made is expected to be developed and then get a patent. This innovation is also expected to get support from the university.
This achievement was conveyed to Undiksha’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Public Relations, and Alumni, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd, Tuesday (21/2/2023). Through a meeting in his office, he congratulated all teams. “Of course we from the field of student affairs give high appreciation to younger siblings from the Faculty of Medicine making innovations related to their fields. We support students to have ideas, have innovations, not only lecture, but can be creative, innovate according to their fields. Of course we will always support,” he said.
Through this opportunity, Prof. Suastra expressed his support for developing this innovation, including providing funding assistance in the competition. “We always provide support for innovation, both at the faculty level and at the university level. So there is synergy from the faculty and the rectorate. The limited funds in the rectorate cause us to synergize and collaborate,” he said. (hms)
