Singaraja– Students at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) have again succeeded in making achievements. This time it came from the Faculty of Sports and Health (FOK) who won 15 medals in the 2019 Indonesian Inter-Student Swimming Championships. This achievement also made Undiksha the overall champion.
The championship took place at Hasanuddin University, Makassar on 25 and 26 October 2019. The Dean of FOK Undiksha, I Ketut Budaya Astra, S.Pd., M.Or., said that five students participated in this prestigious event. Namely Agus Nuarta, Ni Nyoman Dewi Setiari, Dewa Gede Anom Artha Tenaya, Ni Made Putri Dharmayanti and Ida Bagus Gede Jaya Mahotama. They competed in three different events, winning 11 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. In that competition, Undiksha had to compete with a number of universities, such as those from Yogyakarta, Bandung, and so on. “By winning this medal, Undiksha managed to become the overall champion,” he said accompanied by Deputy Dean III, Kadek Happy Kardiawan, S.Pd., M.Pd.
The athletes who competed, he continued, had appeared at the Bali Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) and the National Student Sports Week (POMNAS). “So the preparations have taken quite a long time. These athletes also have their own clubs,” he explained. Delivered further, the achievement was certainly a pride. However, athletes are expected to continue to improve their quality so that they are able to perform at higher events and also succeed in making achievements. In this case, it is hoped that the attention of university leadership will also become more serious, one of which is by forming a Swimming Student Activity Unit (UKM). “Not yet. From the side of the fans quite a lot. We hope that UKM can be formed and funded. This is to maximize student talent development,” said Astra Culture.
Vice Chancellor III Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd expressed his appreciation for this achievement. According to him, it is not only important in supporting student careers, but also being able to increase the grade of institutions, both at national and international levels. “We really appreciate this and hope that more achievements will emerge, including from other fields,” he said.
