Singaraja- Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) once again recorded a significant achievement internationally at Indonesia International Applied Science Olympiad held in Surabaya from 11 to 14 December 2021. Competing with hundreds of team participants from 14 countries, Undiksha’s team snatched four medals thanks to their innovative works.
The first team consisted of Putu Pipit Pricellia Eka Putri from the Legal Studies Program, Ayu Yuli Sumidianti from the Accounting Study Programme (S-1), Komang Yuda Wiryanata from Electrical Engineering Education Study Programme, I Gede Adi Darmawan from Electrical Engineering Education Study Programme, and Kadek Reda Setiawan Suda.
This team displays the work “SMS Link.” Pipit Pricellia Eka Putri explained that this work is an electrical control device that can turn on or turn off electricity based on SMS. This innovation is an effort to anticipate the occurrence of an electrical short that can potentially trigger a fire. “Considering that people’s mobility is currently high and filled with busy activities, they often forget to control electrical appliances in their homes, which can trigger fires. So, with this electrical control device in the form of SMS LINK, we don’t have to worry again if you forget to turn off your home electrical appliances,” he explained when confirmed, Tuesday (12/21/2021). This innovative work won a gold medal.
Then the second team consisted of Gede Gery Apriliana Putra from the Chemistry Study Programme, Kadek Sri Andriani from the Chemical Analyst Study Programme, Ketut Widya Astuti, and Ni Putu Ayu Niya Loviyani from the English Education Study Programme.
This team received two silver medals in the waste treatment and functional food categories through their work entitled “Recycling Plastic Waste Mixed with Riced Husk Ash and Natural Inorganic Pigments into Environmentally Friendly Decorative Paving Block” and “Luwak Coffee in Vitro”.
The team leaders, Gery Apriliana Putra and Ni Putu Ayu Niya Loviyani, explained that this innovative work puts forward an environmentally friendly concept with a product in the form of paving blocks. This product is made from plastic waste combined with rice husks waste and Tajun red stone as a natural inorganic pigment with high resistance even when faced with rains and the hot sun.
Luwak Coffee’s work also gets the spotlight because it uses a mechanism in the civet’s stomach, but the process does not use the civet. This product has a unique taste and is safe for consumption, and even provides a relaxing effect for the audience.
The third team was I Gede Ardana Yasa from the English Education Study Program (S-1) and Made Dwi Yulianti from the PGSD Study Programme. The group, which also collaborated with three students from other universities, presented a work in the field of entrepreneurship entitled “Bali House of Endek: As a Creative House Modifying Endek Into Modern Fashion to Support MSME Endek with Digital Based.” This work won a gold medal. Dwi Yulianti explained that his work is an entrepreneurial program in modifying endek into a modern fashion in great demand. Endek is a typical Balinese woven fabric made by local residents and a great product marketed for domestic and foreign tourists. The “Bali House of Endek” was carried out in Seraya Barat Village, where many people lost their jobs due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. So this program is expected to be an alternative for economic recovery.
Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Public Relations Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., expressed his appreciation for this achievement. “We are very proud of this achievement, especially at the international level,” he said. He hoped that this achievement would increase the enthusiasm of Undiksha students to compete, especially at the international level. He emphasized that achievement is important to support SIMKATMAWA’s ranking and increase student competitiveness. “We at the headship are committed to supporting students who want to compete,” he added.
