Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is implementing the In-service Teacher Professional Education (PPG-Daljab) program phase I in 2020. This national program was attended by 457 participants from six provinces, namely Central Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and South Kalimantan. These teachers took part in an initial online orientation, Friday (7/8/2020). “Of these six provinces, there are 47 regencies/cities. PPG Undiksha is like the rainbow of the archipelago because the participants come from various regions,” explained the Coordinator of PPG Undiksha, Drs. I Gede Nurjaya, M.Pd in his report.
Further explained, the participants were divided into six fields of study, namely Early Childhood Education (PAUD), Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD), Indonesian language education, English education, computer and informatics technology, and sports. “Today we carry out the initial orientation or often also called the PPG academic orientation. This orientation is a kind of initial lecture for participants,” he said.
This orientation is intended to provide participants with provision and understanding of PPG and to better understand the nature of teachers in the current industrial revolution 4.0. The stages of this program will last until November 22, 2020. Participants will later be presented with pedagogic material and material for developing learning tools. Apart from that, they also have to take part in the PPL which is then followed by a performance test which is scheduled to take place online. In the final stage, a knowledge test is carried out. “We hope that all participants can follow this stage well,” he added.
Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Academic and Cooperation Affairs, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.T.I., in his direction, said that PPG is one of the spearheads in efforts to produce professional, quality, and superior teachers. “I hope this participant can be like that,” he said.
He further revealed that the teaching profession carries a very heavy task, especially those who serve at the PAUD and SD levels. At this level, the skills needed are not only limited to how to transfer knowledge. More than that, it also forms the character of students. This is very necessary professionalism. “If I may make an analogy, these teachers are like caring for a tree. Watering from newly grown until the stems are strong and shady. We in college just watered it. The teacher’s task is quite tough because they have to build character,” he said.
The smooth implementation of the PPG program needs support from instructors. It is hoped that various obstacles that may convolve the participants will be facilitated. “Especially now doing full online, I hope that’s not a bottleneck. I hope to be able to do well and get the substance that should be obtained,” said the academic from Badung Regency, adding that Undiksha as one of the implementers of PPG continues to strive to improve the quality of governance, as well as from a management point or the output.
