Singaraja– The Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Library is considered to have provided added value to the development of the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha). Innovations continue to be developed for services, one of which is during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the future, innovative breakthroughs are expected to continue, so that they can become increasingly quality public services. “Continue to innovate or change that can improve service. That’s what we have to do, make changes to improve services,” said Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Academic and Cooperation Affairs, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.T.I., in the UPT library performance evaluation event, Wednesday (30/12/2020).
Furthermore, this academic from Badung Regency said that one of the innovations that can be carried out is the use of information technology in various services, which provides easy access to the academic community. “Looking at technological developments, in the future there may no longer be a library filled with books. But it can be accessed via a computer and so on. Technology becomes a tool. Things like this need to be continuously developed,” he said.
Giving birth to an innovation cannot be separated from the support of Human Resources (HR) owned by the library. In the future, it is hoped that there will be a kind of innovation competition between divisions on an ongoing basis, as is implemented by many companies. “In the company, there are meetings every month. There each section describes what innovations are offered. It would be great if something like this could be done here,” he said. This breakthrough should also be supported by awarding as motivation to improve work quality. “The point is not to highlight one or two people. But what we want is to change the culture. With that, hopefully, other friends will be motivated to do it,” said Rasben Dantes.
On that occasion, Rasben Dantes admitted that he had no doubts about the quality of the Undiksha library’s functional human resources. A number of achievements were achieved in provincial, regional, and national competitions. This achievement is expected to be a capital for initiating innovations that are able to improve service quality in the future. “I hope that the library as a public service becomes a university icon. Why? Because the first thing people look for is the library. Do not go directly to the faculties or to the rectorate. Because this (library, red) is a public service. If this already looks good, the others, oh… must be good too,” said the doctoral alumni of the University of Indonesia.
At this meeting, Rasben Dantes also expressed his appreciation for UPT Library’s efforts to improve facilities and infrastructure amidst budget constraints. His party is trying so that later there will be additional funding to support development. In particular, he hopes that the positive achievements of the library can be maintained and continuously improved in the future. “Undiksha’s library accreditation has become a plus point for Undiksha. It is hoped that this can be maintained and continue to improve quality referring to accreditation standards,” he added.
Head of UPT Undiksha Library, Dr. Made Hery Wihardika Griadhi, S.H., M.Sc., said service innovation by utilizing information technology had been carried out, such as Android-based e-books. “This innovation is also to anticipate services in the pandemic era,” he said.
The man from Sanggalangit Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng admits that he will continue to develop service innovations, including giving a new feel to the library by setting up a reading garden. “We are opening a reading service in the open. Not in the building,” he explained. (hms)
