Undiksha, which has been accredited as superior by BAN-PT, continues to make maximum efforts to realize its vision of becoming a Superior University Based on the Tri Hita Karana Philosophy in Asia in 2045. With Undiksha’s vision, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Higher Education is also working incessantly to implement the Independent Campus-Freedom to Learn (MBKM) Policy. Students are prepared to become competent learners who are skilled, flexible, and resilient (agile learners). This MBKM policy allows students to focus more on developing their scientific disciplines by opening up opportunities for collaboration and achievement as widely as possible.
On the other hand, nowadays, the industrial world is looking for more employees based on more specialized skills according to the needs of the industry. Thus it is a challenge for university graduates to be able to compete in the world of work later. Knowledge is not the main key factor for student success, but skills are another needed factor. For this reason, Undiksha, as a higher education institution, involves industries in improving the teaching process as well as encouraging students across study programmes, faculties, and even universities to collaborate in enhancing academic and non-academic achievements.
The demands and expectations for the achievement of accreditation of Study Programmes and Institutions to be accredited as superior are reasons for Undiksha to support their students to excel at the national and even international level. Moreover, through the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (BELMAWA), the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education has a Student Rating Management Information System (SIMKATMAWA) programme as one of the prestigious student rankings events for all universities in Indonesia. Undiksha, which was ranked 72 in 2018, continues to improve its quality and produce positive results. In 2019 the ranking rose to the 36th position. In 2020, it was 23rd until finally, in 2021, it managed to be in the 13th position of the National SIMKATMAWA. Of course, this is not an easy achievement to do.
The Covid-19 pandemic situation is certainly a challenge for Undiksha students to show their quality in competitions, especially in sports and the arts. However, along with technological developments, students still have the opportunity to participate in contests held online. Of course, without reducing the essence of the value of the event. So that during 2021, Undiksha students managed to keep Undiksha’s name through achievements. These achievements are varied from writings, innovations, business plans, information technology, sports, arts and culture, and others. In addition, there are also events from the Student Creativity Programme (PKM), Holistic Village Empowerment and Development Programme (PHP2D), Village Wira (Wira Desa), Innovillage, and so on.
The success of Undiksha in achieving the 13th rank in SIMKATMAWA in 2022 will be a challenge for the entire Undiksha community to maintain and even improve students’ achievement. Of course, there is a need for collaboration, fostering, and harmonious synergy between the Undiksha community to increase students’ achievement in education, sports, arts, and up to technology.
Students’ achievements are essential for the recognition of Undiksha’s existence. In addition to meeting expectations to achieve SIMKATMAWA achievements, the quality of Undiksha students and institutions is increasingly being eyed by other parties. Thus, Undiksha has prepared various strategic steps to increase student competitiveness, participation in competitions, numbers of entrepreneurial students, start-ups, and so on.
This strategic step is also supported by increasing students’ insight and knowledge of various competitions, which is done through seminars, workshops, and so on by bringing in practitioners and experts from related fields to share with students.
In addition, Undiksha also considers the conversion of student achievements into the student Semester Credit System (SKS), which means that under certain conditions and achievements and at a certain level earned by Undiksha’s students will be converted through credits. This policy is made hoping that students will be more motivated to improve their achievements to make the institution proud without worrying about being left behind in their studies. (lpsy)
