Singaraja– Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is again the executor of Education and Training (Training) for Principals. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, this activity took place virtually and was opened by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., Monday (9/11/2020).
Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Made Agus Wijaya, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained that this training is a program from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture’s Language Development Center for Empowerment of Educators and Education Personnel/P4TK which aims to improve the competency of school principals and student learning outcomes. “Here Undiksha is the executor,” he said. Delivered further, this training lasts for 24 days, starting from 10 November 2020 to 7 December 2020. The participants were Principals of Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle Schools in Badung and Tabanan Regencies totaling 238 people, consisting of 122 people for the Kindergarten level, 112 people for the Elementary school level, and 4 for the Middle School level.
According to continued Agus Wijaya, the teachers at this education and training program do not only come from Undiksha. But also P4TK Language, Bali Provincial LPMP, Badung, Karangasem Regency Youth and Sports Education Office, and the Education and Culture Office of Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. “The supervisors come from P4TK, PGRI Mahadewa Indonesia University, and the Education Office of Pandeglang Regency, Banten. All teachers and supervisors have attended and passed the Bimtek previously held,” he explained.
Undiksha Chancellor, I Nyoman Jampel said that according to what was implied in the Minister of National Education Regulation number 13 of 2007 concerning Standards for School/Madrasah Principals, which mandates that the principal is the highest leader in the school must have five competency dimensions, namely personality, managerial, entrepreneurial, supervision, and social competency dimensions. “Through increasing the competence of school principals, in the future, it is hoped that they will be able to carry out their duties, roles, and functions in leading and managing schools in a better direction, so as to improve the quality of education in Bali in particular and in Indonesia in general,” he said.
Through this training, it is hoped that school principals will also be better prepared to face the challenges ahead. In this era of disruption, it is hoped that it will give birth to innovations in teaching to balance students who enter as digital natives. “The principal must be aware that students are now a generation of digital natives, which is attached to technology. Their concept of school is different from what we experienced before. Teachers must be willing to adapt, want to change the learning model, searching learning models through cyberspace that are in accordance with the content,” he added. (hms)
