Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) continues to make breakthroughs in improving the quality of graduates. Not only by intensifying learning. But it also provides additional knowledge, one of which is English through the International Center for English Excellence (ICEE) program. Specifically for 2018, speaking and conversation classes were closed in the Rectorate’s Ganesha III Room, on Monday (17/12/2018).
Deputy Chancellor IV Undiksha, Drs. I Wayan Suarnajaya, M.A., Ph.D., said that mastery of international languages, especially for students, is important in facing globalization competition. Not only as a provision to face domestic competition, but also at the international level which has a great opportunity to become a career development area. “English is important as capital to get to know the outside world. Get to know the culture of other countries,” he said.
Following this program, students must take part in a selection process. There are no mandatory fees charged for one semester of education. “Those who teach are volunteers. No financing. “But to be able to take part in this program, there is a selection process,” he explained.
The students who are members do not only come from the English Department. But also other majors. In terms of numbers, there has been a decline. However, with increasingly intensified socialization, there has been an increase. “The numbers have dropped. “But we convey again to students that English is important,” explained this academic from Ped Village, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency.
ICEE International Director, Prof. Dr. L.E. Redick, B.Sc. MBA., Ph.D. expressed his appreciation to Undiksha because it has a strong commitment to collaborating in launching this program. “This success can be achieved because there is a strong commitment between ICEE and Undiksha,” she said.
Since its launch, this program has shown very good progress. This can be seen from the students’ score of 73 percent A. However, he reminded them to continue improving their foreign language skills. Because through that, many things and experiences were gained. Apart from the ICEE program, and realizing internationalization, Undiksha has also collaborated with a number of universities in Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Some also in Europe. The activities carried out are in the form of cultural camps, street vendors, and PPL.(hms)
