Singaraja- Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha), Singaraja, Bali is on the rise again in international competitions. This time in the Indonesia International IoT Olympiad (I3O) event held by Muria Kudus University. Represented by two student teams who won gold medals for their innovative works.
Based on the information gathered on Tuesday (24/05/2022), the event occurred from 8 to 22 May 2022. The participants were approximately 200 teams from 14 countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, the United States of America, etc. The first Undiksha team consisted of Ni Wayan Ayu Kesumawati, Ni Kadek Dwi Utami, Putu Wia Rosita Dewi, Kadek Gita Cahyani, and Ni Luh Gede Kusumasari. All of them are students from Mathematics Education Study Programme.
This team brought work in the form of learning media for deaf students named “Fun Math.” This work is a Mathematic Pop Up Book integrated with an augmented reality technology. Mathematical material in this media is packed according to the characteristics of deaf students and is based on culture (ethnomathematics). This innovative work’s birth is highly related to the desire to help deaf students learn mathematics easier. Materials, especially the abstract shapes, could now be easily understood with the help of “Fun Math.” Under the guidance of I Made Suarsana, S.Pd., M.S, lecturer of Undiksha, this work won a gold medal in the education category and special awards from the Malaysia Young Scientists Organization (MYSO).
The second team consisted of I Ketut Adi Darma Yatra from the Mathematics Study Programme, Luh Hanny Arsana Putri from the Mathematics Study Programme, I Made Bhisma Putra Nugraha from the Informatics Engineering Education Study Programme, I Made Kerisna Laksana from the Information Sytems Study Programme, and I Gede Agus Sudiantara from Elementary School Teacher Education Study Programme.
This team presented the work “B-Fiks: Interactive Literacy Learning Media to Strengthen the Alpha Generation’s Education of Character during the Post Pandemic Era.” This work is an innovative learning media that raises the problem of low literacy rates in Indonesia. The team thought about solutions to integrate online-based learning to improve literacy. The team was guided by I Putu Pasek Suryawan S.Pd., M.Pd., who won a gold medal in the education category.
The success of this achievement was welcomed with pride by the team. This achievement motivates Undiksha to participate in other competitions, especially at the international level. The Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Public Relations of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., also expressed his tremendous appreciation for the students’ achievements and their hard work with the lecturers to make Undiksha proud. “We from the headship give extraordinary appreciation to students and lecturers who are always enthusiastic about competing, especially when they are able to win the achievements,” said him.
He invited other students always to have the spirit to compete and excel, which are expected to be fully supported by the lecturers. “Achievements are not only notable for the university but also the students themselves. Through achievements, students are empowered to compete,” added him. (lpsy)
