Tabanan– The National Seminar on Community Service (SENADIMAS) was again held by the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha) through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), on Friday (27/9/2019). This program, which is in its fourth year, is one of the publication media as a result of the dedication that has been carried out by academics who prioritize innovation in improving the quality of life of the community and the nation’s competitiveness.
Head of LPPM Undiksha, Prof. Dr. Gede Astra Wesnawa, M.Si, explained that the seminar which was held at the Saranam Hotel, Baturiti District, Tabanan involved many academics from 32 tertiary institutions from 15 provinces in Indonesia. From that, various types and forms of community service were presented. “Here we share the results of community service. There is an exchange of information so that they can be mutually adopted to be applied in other areas with a touch of innovation,” he explained.
Delivered further, the participants’ interest in this seminar tends to increase every year. Especially for this time, the number exceeded the target. This is highly appreciated and it is considered that the awareness of academics in rolling out community service programs is increasing. “The more involved, of course, the more ideas there will be ideas,” he said.
Especially for Undiksha, community service has been packaged in fostered villages, in which there is development of creative economic potential, such as ant sugar production in the Karangasem area, souvenir production in the Banyuning area, Buleleng, and wine-based wine production in Banjar Village, Buleleng Regency. “All products that have been produced, we strive to have an impact on society and can improve welfare,” he added.
Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., revealed that community service is one of the downstream of research products. Therefore, according to him, the dissemination of research products to the public must continue, so that the university is not said to be an Ivory Tower. “Higher Education, especially Undiksha, is always ready to be present in the midst of society by providing solutions to problems that arise,” he stressed.
This seminar carried the theme “Higher Education and Government Synergy through Community Empowerment in Facing the Industrial Revolution 4.0”. According to the Chancellor from Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, this synergy is very relevant to implement. This is believed to have an impact on the research products produced by the university which can be downstreamed, both to society and to industry. “Because there is no good synergy, a lot of research products produced by universities are not in accordance with the needs of society and industry, so the results of this research are left in the cupboard, as a report,” he said.
Through this seminar, Universities, Government, Industry, and other related parties can sit together and design the required future studies or studies. “The government or industry must give trust to universities to carry out the research or studies needed. Likewise, universities must be able to show themselves by producing quality research products that meet the needs of industry and society,” said Jampel.
Supporting this, emphasized that Undiksha continues to improve quality. This is shown by the improvement in the quality of human resources, accreditation status, number of publications, number of products registered as Intellectual Property, student achievements both nationally and internationally, and other indicators. So that it has an impact on the better ranking of Undiksha on the national level. This is in line with Undiksha’s Vision of “Becoming a Superior University in Asia in 2045 based on Tri Hita Karana”. The seminar was also attended by Assistant I of the Provincial Government of Bali, Ni Made Wiratni, and presenter, Head of Bali Regional Development Planning Agency, Wayan Wiasthana Ika Putra. (hms)
