Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) has thousands of new students. The younger generation who have just transitioned from high school/vocational school levels have the opportunity to be less prepared to attend lectures due to different situations. For this, the Counseling Guidance Service Unit (UPT-BK) is here to provide a solution through a seminar. One of them took place on Friday (27/9/2019).
The seminar which took place in the Ganesha III Room of the Undiksha Rectorate presented Undiksha academic speakers, Dewi Arum WMP, S.Psi.M.A. He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at Gadjah Mada University, explaining the characteristics of learning at the university. That is, the lecturer views the learner (student) as having knowledge from previous experience. In addition, lecturers will not enter class and dictate lecture material, instead, they will ask lots of questions to provoke students’ reasoning, logical thinking, rationality, and creativity. In addition, the assignments given are no longer just answering questions or doing assignments like in the high school/vocational school days, but writing essays, making presentation materials, and so on. This needs to be balanced with self-preparedness, especially mentally by students so that the lecture process runs optimally.
Meanwhile, the Head of UPT BK Undiksha Services, Putu Rahayu Ujianti, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist, explained that through the seminar, students were given knowledge about readiness to deal with things that lead to problems that have the potential to have a negative impact on lectures. “At least we want students to have prior knowledge regarding how to solve problems in lectures,” he explained.
According to data from the questionnaire, students have various complaints. Starting from class schedules, dealing with lecturers, group work, financial management, time, and self. “We provide a solution. What’s it like to face it? Including for students who lack confidence, “he explained. This seminar runs three waves. Previously it also involved participants from among students with different sources, with the same goal. Apart from seminars, the UPT for counseling services also has a counseling training program for academic assistant lecturers, peer tutors, and regular counseling. “Students can come directly to UPT. We are ready to provide guidance,” he added. (hms)
