Singaraja- The Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (FHIS) of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) held an International Conference on Friday (11/8/2019). The event, held at Grand Palace Sanur, Denpasar, presented three experts as keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd., from Undiksha, Prof. Dr. Peter G. Waterworth from Deakin University, Australia, and Prof. Dr. A. Mohaimin Ayus from UNNISA-Brunei Darussalam. The three of them presented materials related to social science and law.
Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Dewa Gede Sudika Mangku, S.H., LL.M., explained this first-ever international conference was attended by dozens of academics, both from Undiksha and other universities in Indonesia. This conference was not only filled with material presentations from keynote speakers about harmony in leadership and community literacy from the social science perspective, social revolution and legal discourse, and journal writing, but there were also parallel sessions.
Through this conference, it is hoped that the understanding of participants, especially those related to social science and law, will increase. In addition, it can be implemented for scientific development. “Of course, we expect that this conference may have an impact on the development of science,” he said.
The Dean of FHIS Undiksha, Prof. Dr. Sukadi, stated that this conference is one of the strategies to dig deeper into ideas and thoughts about social values, which is important to build character, especially in this era with vast development of technology. It should be emphasized that technology must be used appropriately so that it does not erode social values.
“We use technology in communicating with other people. But don’t forget the values that are very important to build our character. Do not let us be controlled by technology,” he said.
According to this academic from Payangan, Gianyar, a harmonious and humanistic relationship is also an absolute thing to be implemented in society. Likewise, with the values of Pancasila. “This humanist relationship must still be implemented, even though there is the involvement of information technology in communication. Through this seminar, social science can follow the revolution in the development of information technology, so technology and social education can go hand in hand. We should not be colonized by technology,” he added.
One of the keynote speakers, Prof. Lasmawan, who brought the material on harmony in leadership and community literacy in the perspective of social science, said that until now, social sciences was still considered a secondary subject. In fact, if you look closely, its role is very strategic for education, training, and familiarizing a student to be good and improve his country. “So far, we have been focusing on making students understand, then speak up, but often forget about their value of themselves and their society and how they can design society with those values. This is what it means by harmony,” he said.
Through this conference, he hopes that there will be thoughts or input from participants who are able to make social sciences the main and important space for educational development. “On this occasion, I would like to invite the participants in how we interpret education to make every citizen understand and aware of their own existence and stance in the state. Especially when they are able to develop values and rely on harmonious leadership,” he concluded. (lpsy)
