Singaraja- Dozens of athletes from a number of regions in Indonesia competed in their abilities at the Ganesha Open Pencak Silat Championship organized by the Pencak Silat Student Activity Unit (UKM) at the Ganesha Education University (Undiksha). This event was opened by Vice Chancellor III Undiksha, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Pujawan, M.Kes at the GOR, Faculty of Sports and Health (FOK) Jinengdalem Village Campus, Buleleng, Wednesday (24/4/2019).
The chairman of the committee, Ida Bagus Gede Indra Mahaditya, said that this was the first time this national-level championship had been held. The aim is to create a joint movement to advance sports as an integral part of efforts to increase human resources and cement a sense of unity and unity of the nation and state. It is no less important to foster athletes’ love and enthusiasm for training as a form of preserving national culture. “This event can also provide athletes with experience in competing. “There are 17 contingents with 76 athletes,” he explained.
This event, which runs until April 26, 2019, received appreciation from the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Buleleng. This is seen as a means of fostering a sense of brotherhood among the community and sports fans, in addition to maintaining physical fitness, achievement, and human quality. “We appreciate the holding of this championship,” said Deputy Chairman I of KONI Buleleng, Dr. I Gusti Lanang Agung Parwata, S.Pd., M.Kes.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (IPSI) Bali, Brigadier General (Ret.) Dewa Bagus Made Suharya, also conveyed the same thing. “The IPSI Bali organization would like to thank Undiksha and the entire academic community for organizing this championship,” he said. It is hoped that this event will also be balanced with ongoing training and trials so that it can produce athletes who are able to perform at events at provincial, national, and international levels. “We, IPSI Bali, are proud of our athletes because they can provide points for Bali and Indonesia in the championship,” he said.
Meanwhile, Undiksha Vice Chancellor, I Gusti Ngurah Pujawan hopes that there will be more participants in this championship and some will also come from neighboring countries. “This sport plays a role in introducing culture and country. “We hope that more people will be involved, including from other countries,” he stressed.
