Singaraja- Unemployment alleviation is a serious concern of the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha). One of the steps that was rolled out was in the form of holding a job fair on 5 and 6 September 2019. This second program is not only aimed at Undiksha graduates but also at the general public. Opened by Vice Chancellor III Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd, accompanied by the Head of Career Development and Student Entrepreneurship (PKKM), Dr. I Gusti Lanang Agung Parwata, S.Pd., M.Kes.
Lanang Parwata explained that this program was in collaboration with the Buleleng Regency Government through the Office of Manpower and Transmigration. There are 32 companies involved, some of which are banking, hotel, insurance, and other services. There are many vacancies provided. “Companies’ interest in participating in this program is high. But space is still limited. Only in the auditorium,” he said.
Delivered further, this program is to accelerate the absorption of graduates into the world of work, especially from Undiksha which is quite a lot every year. “It’s open to the public too. Including high school/vocational high school graduates,” he said. It is hoped that this program will be held every year. In fact, it is hoped that more and more companies will be involved. “Maybe in the future, we can open a stand outside the auditorium. So companies that are interested can participate,” he explained.
Warek, Prof. Suastra appreciates holding this program, especially involving more companies. However, he hopes that graduates will not only focus on becoming workers but also be able to become job providers. “There are Undiksha students who qualify to become start-ups. We hope that more and more things like this will emerge,” he said.
This academic from Klungkung Regency said that currently, the waiting period for Undiksha graduates tends to decrease. However, strategic steps continue to be taken to accelerate uptake in the world of work. One of them is by forming graduates with character. “Many work outside their field of knowledge during college. They can compete,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Buleleng Manpower and Transmigration Service, Ni Made Dwi Priyanti positively welcomed this program because it is in line with government programs. It is hoped that it will have a positive impact on society. “Of course, we really support the implementation of this,” he said. As an educational institution, Undiksha also promotes entrepreneurship programs for students. This is expected to be a provision to face increasingly fierce competition in the world of work so that unemployment status can be avoided. (hms)
