Singaraja- Global Conference on Teaching Assessment and Learning in Education (GC-TALE) and Women In Tesol (WIT) was held by Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) from 5 to 7 August 2019. This big event became a venue for meetings and interactions for researchers from universities, educational institutions as well as research institutions, and educational practitioners. Through this, it is also hoped that it can improve the climate of research and scientific publication in reputable journals among university lecturers, especially Undiksha.
Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Dra. Luh Putu Artini, M.A., Ph.D conveyed in article 1 of Permenristekdikti Number 20 of 2017 that lecturers are professional educators and scientists with the main task of transforming, developing, and disseminating science, technology, and art through education, research, and community service. This conference is considered one of the strategies to implement the policy. “In this conference, the participants have the opportunity to share with each other issues related to research results in the field of education at all levels of education,” he explained.
The conference, which is in its 2nd year, offers various themes covering all levels of education and relevant issues. Some of them are related to social education, character education, and science education. The participants reached hundreds of people consisting of researchers, lecturers, practitioners in the field of education, masters and doctoral students from public and private universities in Indonesia and abroad, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, and Timor Leste. In accordance with the name and theme of the conference, three keynote speakers from abroad were also invited, and 2 people from within the country, each of whom was asked to speak in their respective areas of expertise, namely the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Yohana Susana Yembise, Prof. Lyn Parker from the University of Western Australia, Australia, and Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Padmadewi, M.A from Ganesha University of Education. “This international conference has great benefits in developing scientific fields and scientific experience for both Researchers/Lecturers, Masters and Doctoral Students, Institutions (Undiksha), and the Tourism Office where the general benefit is to introduce Bali in general, and the charm of Bali. as an international tourism destination through the publication of research scientific articles where it is a bridge for ‘rehearsal’ towards publication in reputable international journals,” added Artini.
Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., said that currently, the publication of scientific papers in international-based journals continues to be encouraged. This is not only important for institutions in increasing competitiveness, both at the national and international levels. But it also simultaneously answers the policies of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). “Basically, through this conference, more and more scientific papers can be published,” he said.
