Singaraja- The Faculty of Education, Ganesha University of Education (FIP-Undiksha) through the Student Executive Board held the 16th Virtuous Youth Election (PRB). Grand final This virtual event was held on Monday (30/11/2020). Through this event, it is hoped that a strong and competitive generation will be born in the midst of the global era.
The Chairperson of the Committee, I Gede Adi Wardana, explained that the implementation of this activity was in line with the goals of national education, namely to develop the potential of students to become human beings who are useful and devoted to God Almighty, have a noble character, are healthy and knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, democratic and responsible. “The implementation of this activity is carried out according to the 2020 BEM work calendar. A series of activities have been carried out starting from preparations in October 2020 until the grand final which is being held today,” he said.
Delivered further, there were 74 participants participating in this annual event who came from SMA/SMK/MA and Higher Education levels. Selection is carried out at the school and tertiary level which includes academic achievement, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and personality. Participants were re-selected and 15 people were declared to have passed to the grand final. These participants will compete for a rotating trophy from the Governor of Bali.
The Governor of Bali in his remarks read by the Head of the Youth and Sports Division of the Bali Province Youth and Sports Education Office, I Made Dana Tenaya, appreciated the implementation of this activity because as a medium it encourages non-intellectual intelligence in participants. He also conveyed that the selection of virtuous youth is very important in the midst of a decline in the values of the nation’s character, there are deviations in behavior among adolescents who are far from the nation’s cultural values. “I hope that the participants can work and become the younger generation who can characterize the character of the Indonesian nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FIP Undiksha, I Ketut Gading said the implementation of this activity was a form of Undiksha’s contribution to the development of character among the younger generation. He re-emphasized the selection of virtuous youth starting from a concern for the impact of education that prioritizes intellectual intelligence and subordinates the development of character. These impacts are quite numerous and easy to find, such as drug abuse, international conflicts, inter-ethnic disputes, and so on. “This seems to be the negative impact of education which only prioritizes the development of intellectual intelligence and subordinates the development of character. Therefore, we are called to contribute to the development of the younger generation, especially the development of character,” he said.
Through this event, it is hoped that later school and tertiary graduates will be graduates who are physically, spiritually, and intelligently intelligent as well as emotionally and spiritually intelligent so that they become strong and competitive human beings in the global era. Efforts to strengthen character emphasized that Gading has become a commitment to be applied to his students. According to him, prospective educators must be able to set an example for the next generation. (hms)
