Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) already has a Faculty of Medicine (FK) and has 47 students for the 2018/2019 academic year. The permit for the faculty located in Jinengdalem Village, Buleleng District/Regency was handed over by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education on August 8, 2018.
Deputy Dean II of FK, Dr.dr.Ni Luh Kadek Arsani, S.Ked.,M. Biomed explained that since its initial proposal for the establishment, this faculty was not only to “give birth” to graduates who had the competence as general practitioners according to Indonesian medical standards. But it also has different advantages compared to other FK universities. Namely, having competence in the field of medical tourism. “Graduates will be able to handle tourist cases,” she explained, Tuesday (6/11/2018).
Supporting this, he continued, students are required to master English and have additional skills in Japanese or Mandarin. The learning is directly facilitated by the faculty. “For English, the minimum TOEFL score is 550. If it doesn’t meet that standard, more training will be given,” she said.
Improving student abilities, this faculty has also collaborated with a clinic in Denpasar that handles tourists. In addition, the Badung Regency Hospital was developed as an international hospital. “This collaboration continues to be expanded as an effort to improve quality,” said Arsani.
Student admissions, specifically for the 2019/2020 academic year, are carried out through three channels, namely SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and independent. The quota is still a maximum of 50 people. “This year, admissions will only be through the independent route,” he said. As a new faculty, improving facilities and infrastructure is a serious concern. Likewise with the quality of Human Resources (HR).
Meanwhile, Deputy Dean III, Dr.dr. Made Budiawan, S.Ked., M.Kes.AIFO said that apart from attending lectures in general, students were also encouraged to be active in preparing student creativity programs. “Now we have entered the guidance stage. “Apart from this, we also plan to form a medical aid UKM,” he added.
