Singaraja- The polemic involving Papuan students in areas outside Bali has caught the attention of many parties. Including the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Mohamad Nasir. During a working visit to Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), on Tuesday (20/8/2019), he asked all chancellors to ensure the safety of all students from this earth with abundant natural resources. “I want to guarantee students who are outside Papua. I convey this to the Chancellors of universities throughout Indonesia, especially the state ones. The chancellor must be responsible for Papuan students. If there is a riot, I will call the Chancellor later. The Chancellor must be held accountable,” he said.
He asked the community if the problem of the conflict that occurred was not exacerbated. According to him, it is better to educate the nation’s children together in facing the demographic bonus that will come in 2030. “The preparation of human resources is very important. Do not exacerbate conflict issues. I hope that university rectors throughout Indonesia, students from Papua and West Papua, must be saved. Cannot be discriminated against. Do not get torn apart from all elements of the nation. We have to protect and care for our nation,” he said.
Undiksha is one of the universities that has students from Papua. Rector, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd emphasized that he was ready to guarantee his safety. “The point is we guarantee the safety of Papuan children at Undiksha. Guarantee nothing will interfere, “he said. What was the direction of the Menristekdikti has been immediately followed up. Vice Rector III, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra has met Papuan students, who are also accompanied by the police. “We have guaranteed Papuan students their safety to study at Undiksha and in Buleleng. The police also attended the meeting. The police are very concerned about maintaining peace and conduciveness in Buleleng,” he said.
He conveyed, that the current situation at Undiksha is very conducive. This is also believed to be the impact of the Tri Hita Karana philosophy campaign, one of which is asking the entire academic community to establish good relations with each other, as well as with God and the environment. “This philosophy continues to be conveyed. Therefore, students from various provinces have never had any problems, we also always emphasize togetherness. This is the point to realize Undiksha’s vision,” said this academic from Nusa Dua, Badung Regency. Currently, there are around 70 students from Papua, receiving the Affirmation program. Undiksha has also given intensive attention. “Papuan students are conditioned to live in dormitories and are given ongoing attention. Every month there is a meeting,” he added. (hms)
