Singaraja – Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) carried out the Overseas Teaching Practice Program in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic. This program was in collaboration with Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) Philippines and it was implemented virtually.
Head of the Cooperation and Public Relations Agency, Undiksha, Made Windu Antara Kesiman, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., explained that overseas teaching practice program is one of the best programs in Undiksha which had been running since 2017. The program was conducted under the Institute of Learning Development and Quality Assurance (LPPPM) Undiksha collaborated with a number of universities in ASEAN. Windu said, “For this year, our overseas teaching program was conducted in collaboration with Tarlac Agricultural University”, Monday (3/5/2021).
He further stated that in this year, the program would be conducted from May 3rd to May 28th, 2021. It was participated by 3 students of English Language Education Study Program, 2 students of Mathematics Education Study Program, and 2 students of Biology Education Study Program. These students previously had passed in administrative selection, English Proficiency Test (EPT), English interview, and psychology. “So there are several steps that students must follow to be able to take part in this activity. All activities was conducted virtually”.
For overseas teaching practice programs, the students began the program by doing observation in the intended schools, then it is continued with guided teaching, independent teaching, and evaluation. Windu Kesiman emphasized that this program was not only an implementation for Undiksha cooperation with foreign institutions. It was related to develop students’ teaching skills, to develop English language skills, and students can gain new insight and experience in the international relationship.
“We hope that through this program, student skills in teaching and in using English can be developed. We also hope that the activities will strengthen the cooperation between Undiksha and partners, and that many similar activities will be carried out in the future, “as Windu said. Apart from Overseas Teaching Practice, Undiksha also collaborates with foreign universities in seminars, credit transfers, credit earnings, and internship program for lecturers and students.
