Singaraja- The rapid development of the sports world in Indonesia demands an increase in both the quality and quantity of competent physical trainers. Physical trainers play a crucial role in coaching and developing athletes, as well as in creating effective and safe training programs. Trainers are required not only to have education and skills but also to be able to teach and transfer their knowledge to other trainers.
The Faculty of Sports and Health (FOK) at Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) took real action by supporting the role of competent physical trainers through the Training of Trainers (ToT) program. The National Level 1 Physical Trainer ToT program was officially opened by the Vice Rector of Undiksha for Academic Affairs and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.T.I., on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
He expressed his hopes that this program would help establish a better standard of trainer competence across Indonesia. Participants are expected to become change agents who can enhance the quality of physical training in various regions, thereby contributing to the improvement of national sports performance. Additionally, the ToT activity is expected to build a network of physical trainers across Indonesia, fostering the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices.
The head of the committee, Dr. Luh Putu Tuti Ariani, S.Pd., M.Fis., explained that this ToT aims to produce physical trainers who are not only skilled in practice but can also serve as facilitators and mentors for other trainers. The ToT serves as a platform to train potential trainers effectively and efficiently to teach physical training materials. Through this program, participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the fundamental principles of sports science, training techniques, teaching methods, and physical training program management. Additionally, participants will be equipped with communication and leadership skills essential for becoming inspirational and effective trainers.
The event featured two keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Ria Lumintuarso, M.Si., a lecturer from the Faculty of Sports Sciences at the State University of Yogyakarta, and Dr. Devi Tirtawirya, M.Or., an expert in Advanced Strength and Conditioning certified by ASCA. The ToT program will run until July 7, 2024, and includes 62 student participants from FOK Undiksha.
